Good morning all,

I woke to a glorious pink sky today, the air was crisp and the sun was peeking through.

Unfortunately, I also woke to condensation. This can cause damp and mould and in extreme cases, affect our breathing.

For information on how to deal with this, please see our web page on indoor air pollution.

blf.org.uk/support-for-you/...

and this information on the NHS website

nhs.uk/common-health-questi...

If you have any questions, please give us a call on 03000 030 555

Have a good day!

Interesting, thank you. My house is better than it was for being damp and mouldy since I had the roof done (again!) and got a dehumidifier. But it rains most of the time so the rain comes in around the door. Also I hang up my wet waterproofs indoors. My heating went wrong a few months ago and I can't afford to replace it so have bought a few plug in heaters which are ok but not great. Yesterday it was 13c indoors when I got up! But at least it's not the terrible humidity like when my roof leaked and the plates in the dresser would get covered in mildew!

Hi HungryHufflepuff

I don’t know if you live in the UK. If so there are some energy efficiency companies that receive government grants. Eligible people can get reduced cost gas boiler replacement or if you have cavity wall insulation and the boiler together, both are free. I had mine done this week. They were polite, thoughtful and efficient. Also the radiators were fitted with TRVs. It’s not a top of the range boiler, but it’s much better than my old 18 year old boiler, which was frequently breaking down.

Take care and best wishes.

Oh dear that doesn't sound good. I hope your heaters and dehumidifier see you through the damp winter... assuming we will have one!

Keep our tips handy, and if you have any concerns, please give us a call.

Regards, Biddy

Thank you for giving us this information. I was particularly pleased as I am a member of a sustainability group. We are an active group and among other things make many of our own cleaning products using lemons, vinigar, bicarbonate of soda, salt and many other things which are natural and don't contain any nasty chemicals. Our grandparents didn't have any of the cleaning products available in the shops today and just used these natural things for cleaning purposes. I feel strongly that if more people changed to using natural materials in their homes the air around us would be cleaner and healthier. for us. We would also be doing a service to ourselves and of course, the environment.

Thank you Biddy.

It's quite atrocious how some people have to live with damp and mould in the UK, especially in this day & age, so wrong.

It is a common problem for many people. Particularly people in rented accommodation and those on a low income.

Mold is so bad for people. How about a dehumidifier, Biddy would that help...we have one, and I feel better since we have.

Take care,

Meg

Thanks Meg, I don't struggle with it too badly, and luckily the windows have vents that I've now opened in preparation!

I’d also like to suggest a marcher (type) window vacuum. The condensation is then poured away rather than reabsorbing into the air.

I’ve found this to be very useful at this time of year.

I've never heard of these - I'll have a look on YouTube.

Thank you.
