Spot on lung.

Hi does bronchiectasis show up as a shadow on your lung I have a small spot from chest infection since may have to get ct scan done altho not till end October I'm really worried what the spot could be could it be still there from chest infection..even tho that's was 3 months ago.. Can anyone help please..

My lungs look like a spider climber and in and made a complicated web! Sorry, only a few doctor can tell you what the spot is but every infection leaves scarring I believe .

Hi Beverley. I had pneumonia which wasn’t clearing. I had a few x rays and then I was recalled for a scan as I had a mass shadow/mass which wasn’t going away. Initial thoughts were cancer-it was even on my notes!! It turned out to be bronchiectasis. Hope this helps x Anita

Hi Dickinson 1954..the spot is where the infection was I was hospitalised in April for 3 days with chest infection had xray 6 weeks ltr still showed spot still there.. So consultant sending me for ct scan with contrast.. My scan not till end of October so was thinking if he thought it was serious would I have got an earlier appointment.. Was diagnosed mild copd and asthma last September I had xray when diagnosed but was clear so I'm hoping spot is the remains of infection...or something not too serious. Thank you.

Bronchiectasis can only be diagnosed by a ct scan which should be read by a bronchiectasis expert.

Bronchiectasis can only be diagnosed from a CT scan as far as I am aware. That is how they found I had it so be patient.

When I was investigated for Aspergillosis I was warned not to be alarmed if I saw black or dark patches on tge scan because it presents similarly to cancer.

Don't worry just yet - easy to say I know. P

Thanks for your reply peege.. But the spot is white on the edge of my left lung half way down.. Just hope it's from infection I had in April..

Sorry I couldn't help. I did see my CT scan back in 2013, all the damaged parts, from previous pneumonias, infections & childhood diseases were white though. Good luck with results. P

Thank you peege it's just waiting to have the scan it's not until end of October I'm a nervous wreck at this stage..
