Midweek break
Hi Sue, see if Wight link or any of the ferry companies have any offers on. It’s worth checking. Don’t know where you would be going from, we sail from Portsmouth.
Hope you find something to suit and have a great time. Xxxx
Until recently my daughter lived in Ryde and worked in Portsmouth. I seem to remember that the railway station is right beside the boarding area for the direct ferry to Ryde. If you google Portsmouth and go on street view you could "walk" around the area. Enjoy the trip !
You used to be able to get a train from St. Pancreas Station in London which connected with the ferry service. Don't know if you still can. x
Thanks for that but trying to avoid London if I can x
It’s difficult without knowing whereabouts your located or what kind of travel you prefer but one idea might be the national express buses. If you’re near a major airport you can pick one up there & go straight to Ryde for a reasonable cost - for instance £35 ish one way from stansted midweek.
Private jet comes to mind but then my carbon footprint s--t will chat with Harry and Megs
Unless Elton is your friend? You could have a word with him. 🛩️
I heard this joke the other day, btw:
How do you know there’s a pilot in the room?
He will tell you......
(which has usually been my experience 😂)
😁 Yes that's true. Whereas most people say "Hello I'm pleased to meet you" on a first encounter, you can spot the pilot among them because he'll say "Hello I'm a pilot" At least that's how I remember it 😄
There's the answer to the problem! Go meet a lot of people and wait for the pilots to introduce themselves 🚁
But are helicopter pilots the same? I really think the helicopter is the way forward here.
Or the other suggestion I posted just now.
😁 I just saw your other suggestion.
I don't know if helicopter pilots are the same. I've never knowingly met one though I probably have, as they look like us and live among us 🚁
Yes. Like aliens 👽.
Do you think I am going to get told off for that, BTW?
Not been told off since MrsMummy was here 😔. She was very patient with me.
I hope not but I was thinking I feel quite teenagerish lately, I think Ali_H started it with the interloping. It's been fun! Sometimes the antics and capers we get up to here make all the difference to my day. A good laugh here can set me up for the day and give me the positive attitude I need to deal with any adversity. But I still don't want to get into trouble and told off for it 😁
Depending on where you live in Surrey I would go on the train to Portsmouth Harbour then to Ryde via Wightlink.
You only have to walk to the end of the platform to get the ferry.
If you let Wightlink know in advance they do wheelchair loans and assisted passage. They also offer a discount for blue badge holders and for those who have a disabled rail card.
You can book tickets from whatever station you are travelling from to Ryde.
The Wightlink web site has a lot of useful info.
Hope that helps if you need more info give me a shout

Hi Hon
This is one of the few occasions I would phone to book tickets etc. I’m a tech geek!
That way you can explain your travel needs and they can put plans into place for you and the right assistance.
National rail also offer assistance but again you have to let them know in advance, generally 24 hours but I would do it sooner. It doesn’t matter if you have a travel companion. Their telephone number is 0800 022 3720
Hope that’s useful for you, if you need anything else give me a shout.

I live on the Isle of Wight, if your coming over by car, wightlink Portsmouth to fishbourne is closest. Cheapest is probably red funnel, but the sail Southampton to cowes, foot passengers you can come over in fast cat from Portsmouth to ryde pier head or Southsea hovercraft to ryde!! Have great time, if you need anything else let me know 💖
Thanks we are foot passengers and will be going from Portsmouth to Ryde , is it cheaper on the ferry or hovercraft?X
Ferries go from Portsmouth Harbour Station. ie not Portsmouth and Southsea Station. Have a lovely time
The train station is immediately next to the wightlink passenger boat. Or, you could get a taxi to hovertravel in Southsea, which takes you into Ryde - flat when you get off.
There is also the car ferry, but that comes in at Fishbourne, about 3 miles from Ryde and is quite a long way from a bus stop, if you don't drive. It can also be difficult to get a taxi from there, so I would go Portsmouth Hard - Ryde or Southsea - Ryde.
There are coaches to Portsmouth Hard, but if your breathing is bad, it is quite polluted getting of the coach, going into the train station and catching the boat.
Hope this helps.
Let me know if require any further information, as I live on the Island and use to commute to Portsmouth everyday.
Thank you very informative it must be lovely to live there.
I agree I have sailed from Portsmouth and Southampton in the past - both accessible
By train if you have no car. Often the rail
Companies do combined train and ferry offers.
Or some bus companies might stop in Guildford
And offer combined ticket with ferry
Maybe it depends on where you are staying over there -
as the ferries
And buses go to different places. There’s also a ferry from The new forest - Lymington I think -but i would avoid that this time Of year As it’s a nightmare to get to by car and there’s no train station
Good Luck
Enjoy
I heard on the radio yesterday that there are frequently abandoned dinghies and RIB’s on the beaches around Folkestone and Dover way, that some folk do sort of, er, adopt for themselves without mentioning it to the authorities.
As the previous occupants are already on their way to London or wherever.
Could be worth hanging around there?
Grab a decent RIB.
Only a few miles to the Isle of Wight.
And you are a boat up on the deal.
