Oh dear, Chrys, I'm sorry to hear you've been given something else to worry about. I hope someone will have answers for you and it doesn't have to make too much difference to your diet.

You could also put your question to the Diabetes Research & Wellness Foundation here: - healthunlocked.com/drwfdiab... where I'm sure there will be many knowledgeable members.

"I can eat a normal diet but wit care?. " is exactly what it means. I've been type two for donkey's years and get checked at the GP's surgery every six months. Just lay off the sweet stuff and eat in moderation. Out of all my many ailments that's the least I worry about. Mind you, if you continually overstep the mark the results can be pretty dramatic so best to be careful. 😉

That's good to know. Unfortunately I LOCE chocolate and sweets so this part of my diet change is going to be tough. Thanks for the advice though, it has re-assured me for the moment. CHRYS

You can buy sugar free, I treat myself with giant chocolate buttons let one melt on your tongue make’em last. 🤣 Good luck.

OH Don, That thought is making my mouth water. I am using half sugar in my coffee but like it made with milk. Have you tried almond milk? I understand that is acceptable instead of cows milk. Chrys

in reply to RoadRunner44

I use sweeteners and have no sugar in the house, but stick with semi-skimmed cows milk for tea, coffee and on branflakes. I've recently been put on Metformin tablets for misbehaving. If I was younger I would have been more careful and avoided that.

Do you know if sugar alternative sweeteners are OK to have. It is going to be very hard to give up sugar completely. I know I have a choice now, and if I want to beat it I have to accept there has to be a life change. I have semi skimmed milk too so that's a comfort.

Natural alternatives to sugar (like stevia) are better. Some artificial sweeteners like sucralose, according to certain reports, can be harmful to beneficial gut bacteria and this can cause digestive problems.

I'm sorry, I should have also asked if a cake is made with sugar would one small slice be ok occasionally? As I'm Pre diabetic I want to be safe but will need a treat from time to time.

I don't have the knowledge to answer that question. I need to lose weight but I too love food, all food all the time, especially sweet things like cake and cookies and chocolate. Therefore I understand how difficult it is to contemplate having to give up these delicious things. I really don't know if a piece of cake or a treat from time to time is ok, or if it would be detrimental to your health. There are sugar free things available, some are naturally sugar free or sweetened with dates or apple juice, and some are specially manufactured. Is it the Stute range of foods that are specially made for diabetics? It's not easy. All the delicious things seem to be bad for us!

Yes, it's difficult, but at least I know the consequences. Keep well, Chrys

I have been Pre-diabetic for about 6 years then i lost 3 stone because of acid reflux nd my level went from 45 to 41 then when i got that under control and put weight back on it went up and now it's 46 so almost diabetic but both my brothers have it so it must be in the family.

I have been prescribed with Omaprazole capsules for my acid reflux. Why didn't your doctor prescribe these for you? I don't have any problem now.

in reply to RoadRunner44

Been on acid tablets 3 years me and the wife both stopped smoking then started having health problems both got acid and both got Emphysema plus many more.

My wife now has to have b12 injection every 3 months because of asid tablets :( acid tablets are really bad.
