Hi all, I'm new here. Would really appreciate any advice. My dad had chest infection in March, had chest xrays, ct scan, lung function, pet scan....they have found something on his lung and he now needs an ebus (endoscopic bronchial ultrasound) hes terrified and as a very stubborn independent 80 yr old not happy about any of it! Also doesn't want to stay with me for the 24 hours afterwards! Can anyone tell me their experiences and outcomes of this procedure please? I'm an only child and need to prepare for every/any eventuality. Many thanks x

Could you go to his house maybe take in his favourite tea
That's if allowed to eat. Watch a few films together take mind off things play a game chess or scrabble. It wont stop the worry but at least you are there. He may feel being at your house he I'd putting on you. My mum was the same stubborn
Hi Crazychik, its normal to feel scared when facing these tests, especially once you reach your Dad's age. It sounds like he doesnt want to stay away from home, so perhaps you could make arrangements to stay over with him as Spaceact1 suggested. If he is having a local make sure they give him a sedative to calm him down. I would have some homemade chicken soup on the go for his return as I'm sure his throat will be sore for a day or two. Just give him a little tlc whilst he needs it. Wish him all the best x
Probably a bit late, but I had this just two weeks ago - terrified to the point of bursting into tears just before it was done.
I needn't have worried about it: a lovely nurse (Brenda) took me in her arms and made me feel better ...laid me down, put me on oxygen, and the registrar gave me the sedation.
...knew nothing more until aware of a discomfort on the right. Consultant told me to keep still, so I tapped the cannula with my right hand, and they topped up the sedation. Nothing more until I was aware of being in recovery.
Felt fine afterwards, but I don't live on my own. I reckon waiting for the results are more scary than the procedure!
