Dealing with Bronchetaesis

I was diagnosed with this condition back in 2012 and usually have antibiotics to fight chest infection. I am prescribed carbocisteine tabs to help break up mucus. My question is, should i keep taking these drugs permanently or stop every now and then to give my system a break?

How you use carbociateine is up to you. If you want to give it a break, try not taking it for a few days and see if you have problems getting the mucus out. I cannot tolerate it because it makes me feel sick. I nebulise 0.9% saline and I have an aerosure medic device which I don’t have to use very often.I am very good at loosening it with my breathing tecniques which I learned as a child. getting the stuff out is the most important so how you do it really doesn’t matter.

Thanks for this, I do use breath techniques to help clear things but my worry is taking a drug on a longer term could make things worse?

I think it would be fine and there are quite a few people on here who take it on a permanent basis. For your peace of mind phone your consultant’s sec and ask for confirmation

I stop sometimes when things are good and settled. Just a personal thing. Mainly take them every day.
