Just wanted to post a quick update to say that I'm well on the road to recovery after the recent pneumothorax. I've tried to follow people's advice by not rushing back in to work or exercise and I'm now well on the road to recovery.
Work - as you'd imagine being the British Lung Foundation - have been incredibly supportive giving me a full week after my release from hospital to recover even though doctors said I could work straight away. I've been taking baby steps at the gym and last week returned to the treadmill where I did an impressive 25 minutes and 4.5k on the treadmill.
I'm still not 100% there yet but these things take time and I also have to take into consideration with the underlying lung disease progression I will continue to get tired easier. All the more reason to do what I can to stay strong for as long as possible.
Thanks everyone for all your support as always. Wishing you all the very best for Easter in the sunshine whatever you get up to - my wife and I are off to visit my Dad in Bournemouth.

Lovely to have you back and looking so well. Onwards and upwards
Lovely to see that you are carrying on carrying on. I went back to my ‘job’ on Sunday after two weeks of something nasty. We were busy because we are a tourist destination. It was lovely to be out of the house with people to talk to.
Thanks sassy59 ! All is going well at the moment. Experienced enough to know that things can change pretty quickly so need to make the most of good health while I have it without overdoing it. Not an easy balance but I'm getting better at it! Hope you're well and had a great Easter?
Thanks for the words of caution Katinka46 ! I'm getting better at being more patient but I definitely still need reminding now and again. Really hope you're well and had a good Easter weekend?
2.5 K is no mean feat in consideration and as you say it does take time to build back up again. Which of course you have to go for, or pay the penalty of being worse. It has now taken me 6 weeks to get back to near how I was before my last infection, severe emphysema and pneumothorax are not the same but shows that it does (not can) take time to recover with dodgy lungs. Enjoy your break, fair weather all the way through next week too, down here (@Southampton).
Thanks 2greys ! I was chuffed with 4.5k though was pretty knackered afterwards. Going to the gym again tonight after excessing a bit at the weekend so adding a little more to the challenge. You have my every sympathy when it comes to having to work your way back to health again after infections and flair ups. It can take ages and at times feels like the old cliché of one step forwards two steps back.
Hope you had a lovely Easter weekend in the sunshine and wish you all the very best on your own road to recovery.
Thanks HungryHufflepuff . I had a brilliant weekend in the sunshine. Off to the gym now to give the lungs another work out after Easter off. Hope you had a great weekend and thanks as ever for all your support.
Hi Hun, This is Great News and so Inspiring. I too have recently been poorly with an Exacerbation which went on for about 3 weeks, then Recovery time. I was at the Gym and Exercise Classes before this happened and now trying slowly to get my Strength back, In that time the Gym has closed down, so I looked on our Local "For sale" and found a Treadmill (auto) for a Tenner, it works ok and I have the exercise Bike, so it's just me now getting the oomph back into my Life. Once the LRV Valves have been replaced, I will be in Fine fettle. Have a Great Weekend with your Dad, Take your Sun Cream. xxxxx
Sorry to hear that you've also been unwell recently Hacienda . Recovery takes ages and it's so frustrating when you begin to build a bit of momentum only to find yourself almost back at square one again after an exacerbation. Getting your own treadmill is a GREAT idea - you'll have to put somewhere where you have a TV and/or music to keep you motivated. Keep fighting! I'm off to the gym now after a great weekend with my Dad in Bournemouth.
Hope you’re well and truly on the mend now Carolina. It seems as if three weeks is the recovery time as that’s how long Pete takes to get better. He’s doing ok now and has to take Nystatin for Candida. There’s always something. Xxxx😘
Hope you had a nice Easter. I have been to Bournemouth several times, including Southbourne. We used to visit relatives there. Think we are the opposite side of Bournemouth to Southbourne this time. But out of town so should be good. Enjoy your day.
I'm in a good way at the moment Carnival567 and am old and ugly enough to know that it's important to enjoy it while it lasts. Hopefully I'll get a good run now until the next pneumothorax and/or exacerbation. Hope you're well?
Great to hear you are on the road to recovery, have a great weekend in Bournemouth with your Dad, the weather is set for a sizzler so enjoy yourselves x
Thanks so much Izb1 ! The weather was amazing and was just what I needed after a tough week at work and a couple of gym sessions. I even managed my first outdoor run since the pneumothorax in the sunshine!
Oh! this is such good news, it must have been great having a run in the sunshine, makes you feel like you are getting back to normal , whatever normal is ha! So glad you enjoyed the break, sounds like it did you the world of good x
It really did! Run last night at the gym didn't go quite so well but I had a good blast on the exercise bike this morning so feeling upbeat today. Cannot tell you how much of a difference exercise makes to both my physical and mental well being.
Fantastic weather! Everything seems better in the sunshine though if my mother-in-law is anything to go by it's not a good time of year for pollen allergies
