Jury Service
You can only ask, the jury service people were really helpful when we contacted them about our autistic son. You will need a medical certificate. Hope this helps xx
The mention of coughing in court will surely be enough, backed up with a doctors note.
I would not think that getting out one's spacer and using it in mid trial or a powder inhaler like Bricanyl with it's very loud hissing noise when used, would go down well with a Judge. Then there is the risk of being sat next to someone wearing an obnoxious perfume in the Jury Box.
I am pretty sure that your partner would be excused, rather than the risk of causing a distraction and interrupting the proceedings.
Thank you all for replys very helpful and reassuring
yes, you can be excused.
I am excused for life due to my COPD and other health issues, you just write to them they in turn ask your doctor and HEY PRESTO....No more jury service.. i think though it depends on the severity of your illness.
Thanks
Hi when I was purloined for jury service at the Old Bailey back in '87 I mentioned it to my doctor, and he offered to get me excused coz of my bad smokers cough. So see your doctor. I did want to go though and had a brilliant time. x
It must be possible surely, for the health of your husband. All those germs 😷
More than likely, yes!
I told them I simply wouldn't be able to stay awake all day as I am always exhausted and keep nodding off and I was excused.
Go to your Dr, I was selected for jury service and I asked him if I could have a letter explaining my condition and having to walk back and forth to car parks, Dr wrote one for me, I phoned jury service told them I had a letter from Dr and explained my condition, I filled a form in from them, sent drs letter, and I have been excused for life.
Thanks for your replies I will let my partner know it will be a relief to himx
He could turn up on the selection day with a mask on! That might do the trick.
