8 days after inhaling a quantity of grey asbestos dust (while ill advisedly handling roofing waste on a windy day) my throat pain has subsided but I still have chest pain, wheeziness and a persistent cough. Should I bother my GP or wait and see how my symptoms change over time? Thank you

See your GP urgently and get properly checked. Xxx
Hi
There is no harm in being checked out, but unlikely to be conclusive
Corrugated asbestosis roofing sheets are manly cement based, any asbestos is incapsulated in the product and unlikely to present any significant risk to health, any dust is probably normal environmental dust irritating but mostly harmless, you own defence system will make you cough up or pass through your body.
Amazed that you chose to remove hazardous material without use of even the simplest personal protection equipment, £3 at BQ. Could save any future complications,
It's ok there are a lot of us idiots around! Get to your GP!
My dad died of Asbestosis/mesothelioma back in the early 90’s. He had worked at Heathrow airport in the early 60’s lagging pipes with a powder mix that included asbestos. It lay dormant in his lungs for 30 years before killing him. The coroner found 4 fibres of asbestos in my dads lungs. That’s how serious this is, or at least could be.
Please take this seriously and ask/insist on a full and complete check up. I feel that you could be totally fine but please don’t just assume until you are absolutely certain. Take care and keep us posted on your progress 😊
Thank you all for your responses. I saw a GP the day before yesterday. He logged the circumstances of my presenting on my file and listened to my chest. He said I might get an asbestos related disorder in 30 years time and that I could possibly save 30 years of worrying about it by having a sample of the dust tested. I still have chest pain but the cough has subsided so I'm hoping my body will continue to work its magic. I should have asked the doctor about the mechanism by which recovery from my immediate symptoms will take place. I'm most probably somewhat in denial about the whole thing.
