I have just Had an operation to remove a tumour from my face but I was more worried about my COPD and being able to breath under anaesthetic as I really struggle with minimum activity.
I was bumped to last on the list to avoid delays as I think everyone was concerned although very reassuring. Waiting for 7 hours not great!
In addition to breathing problems I also react badly with anaesthetic and am very sick after an operation. The thought of that on top of it being on my face was not a nice idea.
Well I survived and am home, back in my own bed after 24 hours. There was a problem, they could not insert a drain into the wound as I was coming round and they didn’t want to put me back under but this meant 2 hourly obs to ensure no excessive swelling in my throat although the bruising is wide spread.also had to sit up all night, not easy in a slippery hospital bed.LOL.
Pain is minimal, I can eat and drink and will have the results in a weeks time when the stitches are removed.
So, dear friends, don’t let the fear of COPD put you off having surgery, they truly can perform miracles these days.

So good to read your post . I’m waiting for an op after it was cancelled last time due to not having a HDU bed available for me. The anaesthetist wouldn’t do the op without a hdu bed in case I needed it after anaesthetic due to my copd. It worried me making me think I shouldn’t have it done.
You’ve helped by sharing your experience. Thank Jeanrita
Really glad to hear your news and I wish you a speedy recovery. It’s great to hear about your positive experience and well done for being so brave! My Dad has COPD and it’s sadly left him fearful of most things in case he reacts badly so I’m going to forward this on to him as you’re an inspiration 😃.
You are a true 🌟 superstar Artist44 and so inspirational for us all. I'm hoping you continue to recover and I look forward to seeing you on here again,to tell us all how things are. Best wishes.
Hi ive just been told that I have copd. Im waiting to have surgery on my back as I have a slipped disk. im also waiting to have an op on my ear as the tube that connects your ear nose and throat is blocked. Ive failed my pre op but the consultant that I was seeing about my copd has said that if the tests that im having repeated come back the same as when I had them in 2017 then he will speak to the other consultants and say that im fit for surgery. im still very worried about having the op on my back cause if it goes wrong then I will be paralysed. Then there is also the worry of what if I stop breathing due to my copd?
I understand about not breathing but I guess if you look at it logically anyone can stop breathing having surgery. That was my biggest fear and they were followed by umpteen others as I overthink everything but so far so good. My tongue feels strange, my right ear is numb and the bruising and swelling around my neck is very colourful but I survived.
All I can say is that you have to hand yourself over to the experts who want the best outcome for you too. Have faith.
