For a non lung related condition my consultant says the anaesthetist might decide I am not suitable for an anaestheric due to me being on oxygen 24/7. If I don't have an operation my life chances are very reduced.
Has anyone had an anaesthetic whilst on oxygen? How did it go? PM me if you prefer privacy.

Thank you for your response. I was feeling rather despondent when they seem to be suggesting I couldn't have it. It would be a major operation and I am on a high dose of oxygen, and low sats on air. That may make a difference.
Please remember we are all different and the surgery you need is not going to be what I needed. Do get your surgeon to arrange an appointment with the anaesthetist and then at least you know for sure what your options are. The surgeon will be guided by that answer and may still decide that the risks are too close for him/her to want to take responsibility for. Then you need to take the anaesthetist report and find another surgeon. I wish you the very best. Regards Rib
Hi Happyfeet ( love that name), I an not on oxygen ( although that might change very soon) but during my recent hospital visit, a fellow patient with severe emphysema and on oxygen 24/7 spoke about this subject. She had a hip replacement last year after a lot of agonising about whether she could have surgery/anasthesia or not. Unfortunately, I can't remember if it was an anaesthetic or epidural she had but the significant thing seemed to be that she had a respiratory team in standby in case intervention was necessary. Apparently they did intervene but she did manage to have the op and it was a success. Hope you get some more definite input but I thought I'd share this story with you for what it's worth. Thanks argana, it needs to be a full general anaesthetic, cant be an epidural or a local.
I'm on oxygen 24/7 as well. About 2 years ago I was put out for an endoscopy. I wasn't out for very long & The clinic had Me connected up to Their oxygen. I don't know if that helps You any. 
I'm glad it worked out for you. I think my op will be over an hour long. Waiting for an appointment with an anaethetist.
Don't know what your operation is for but I had a major operation below the waist and I had a spinal block and was sedated so even though I wasn't anaesthetised I didn't know a thing. Keep smiling
