HI! to all out there, firstly many thanks to all who replied to my first ever post for all your kind thoughts and sage advice. At last I am awaiting an appointment with a consultant. But in the meantime I am battling with pseudomas, I got it from a hospital visit before xmas, I had 2weeks of i/v antibiotics but it came back after a coup;e of week, I then went on clarithromycin orally but had to give up after 10 days due to side affects, it is now back again and I am going to hospital for an i/v insert to receive a/b's again at home. Is there any one who has had this nasty bug advise me how long it can take (if ever) to get rid of it as it really getting me down!

It seems most of us carry these bugs around with us which just lay dormant, but when they do flare up can either go away on their own or be very difficult to shift. Looks like you have been unlucky to have been one of the later. I do hope I'm wrong and that the next lot of antibiotics work for you. So sympathy is all I can offer which I do unreservedly. We over 80's can do without this sort of bother. 😠

Hi johnhawk, once pseudo gets into your lungs it tends to lurk in there. I have been colonised with it since 1986. The idea is to get it down to levels which do not make you feel ill and don’t show up on a lab plate standard count. Then to keep it down, usually by nebulising antibiotic at home. Clarithromycin is a nasty drug. My consultant won’t have it anywhere near me. Sometimes it is possible to only have an ab when it flares up. But this relies on really good lung clearance every day to rob the bug of the warm liquid that it likes to breed in. I hope that helped a bit.

I am COPD and don't know much about this nasty bug that seems to have got a hold. Anyway, I hope it gets cleared up soon and you start to feel better. Good luck and take care
