My daughter in law has just been turned down with no points. She has had COPD for many years and not getting any better in fact worse. She went for assessment they did not come to her and waited six weeks for reply. Her COPD is checked by the hospital and doctors on reqular basis so do not understand no points. Her mother had it and it was part of what was on her mother's death certificate last year as contributing towards her death. Have suggested that she appeals against it. Any suggestion would be helpful to what to do next. Thanks

I certainly would appeal, and make sure she tells then any other conditions she suffers with. It is always worth appealing. Have a look on here I'm sure there are advisors which can help her. Good luck let us know how she gets on

Appeal. They seem to turn everyone down on the first attempt. Your local citizens advice bureau might be able to offer advice too. Do not give up, that seems to be what they hope many people do at the first refusal. (Saving money?) . Good luck.
The first step in the process is to ask for a mandatory reconsideration. She needs to look at the descriptors and state where she thinks she scores the points. It is straightforward to do if she has the time and is well enough. It is worth sending in any additional evidence at this stage.
She might be able to get advice or help with this from the BLF team, Citizens Advice or a local welfare benefits unit.
If the reconsideration is unsuccessful, she can appeal that decision and go to Tribunal. Many PIP claims are awarded at the Tribunal stage.
It seems quite incredible, and very wrong, that your daughter-in-law should have received no points at all at her assessment. Please ask her to call Biddy on the BLF Helpline (03000 030 555) - see Biddy's post here - healthunlocked.com/blf/post........
Good luck
Unfortunately its not the condition its how it effects your everyday life. Its hard to admit that you struggle to wash dress cook ect but thats what she must do
Get blf helpline or cab or equal lives to help her fill in forms get letters from any medical person that helps look after her dr, consultants, physio's ect look on line for the descriptors as mentioned above make sure they are the latest version they were updated 2018 i think. Good luck
Hi PIP is based not on the condition but how it affects you, and you have to fit certain criteria. For example if she says she can do something with no explanation then she will get no points. If however she says yes I can do that but it takes me an hour to recover afterwards and meanwhile I am in pain then she should get points.
My advice is to get help completing the forms from either CAB or a local disability group when she appeals. x
