Emphysema and flu
Hi
If your concerns are worrying. Phone 111 for advice.
Hi if his breathing is ok then normal flu treatment is advisable. Lots to drink paracetamol for akes and pains and helping to keep temp down. And rest. If you become concerned about his breathing call for help as stone said 111 for advice or 999 if you feel urgent help is needed. Trust your own judgement you know him and his health better than anyone

Hi, It's now too late for the weekend, I have severe emphysema, have the flu jab every year and don't get too many problems with flu itself. It may be time to start him on the standby meds that you get at the beginning of emphysema treatment, they are supposed to stave off a chest infection which can last for months and will weaken him further. As it is no longer the weekend get an appointment with GP ASAP he may some better advice.

Hi again, COPD covers a multitude of respiratory ailments, emphysema falls into this engulfed area. Emphysema is (as most COPD cases are) progressive. It is avery frustrating disease, it gives you shortness of breath, hills, stairs & slopes usually do you in, Fatigue is very common, lack of strength to do almost everything. I find even washing up wears me out. Your husband needs to swallow his pride and go see his GP about the mucus. Germs for a chest infection can hide there, then he will feel rough.
I've done 2 years research for something that will make it easier but there is no cure as such. All traditional lung treatments have been refused and I can only take the next risky step by having a stem cell treatment. Your husband does not to do that get him to the GP ASAP. You could also look out for your local Palliative care team, they can get a number of aids, I used them they are great, they even helped me to get the max amount of Attendance Allowance certainly worth a try.
Lungs are precious look after them it's not easily a repair/passing disease as the treatments depend on your individual state of health.
