You could always drink a spoonful of iron tonic instead. Talk with your pharmacist. HTH Rib
Gordysmit - I don’t know your age or what your illnesses are but I have been told by health professionals that iron deficiency anaemia is quite common in folk with chronic disease. There is a protocol for this and it includes referral to the hospital for endoscopy just to exclude bleeding from bowel/stomach.
OH has multiple health problems including iron deficiency. He is on Ferrous Fumarate and after a short period of taking a reduced dose then having a rest from it his iron level dropped again so he is probably going to need it for life. He has blood tests about three monthly.
Hopefully your iron levels will be improved now you are on treatment and you will feel better for it.
If you take an iron tablet try taking it with orange juice, it absorbs better. The usual supplement is 14mg but it depends on how low you are as you may need more, your GP should tell you what dose you need though as overdoing it is good either. Lots of green leafy veggies, spinach is great.
My nan had the penisioucs (think I've spelt that wrong) anemia and she used to go for weekly iron injections which worked for her.
