Issue on flight

Hi need some advice please. I have just flown to Turkey and during flight became unwell and lost consciousness requiring oxygen to bring me round.

I have Bronchiectasis but keep myself relativly fit and healthy. But i am terrified about my return flight.

Is there anything I can do minimize this happening again

I have flown before without any problems

Hi I’m sorry to know about your ordeal, that’s really scary when it happens. It happened to me one time, on a flight back from Egypt, but I was on my return so didn’t have the fear of another impending flight to worry about. I have flown since and not had any problems but I was really worried about flying again (and in fact still worry each time) so I can understand you’re terrified. I have no medical knowledge nor do I know your situation so I can’t really give you any practical advice but in my case it turned out to most likely be an unfortunate combination of things exacerbated by the medication I was taking at the time, which had the side effect of lowering blood pressure, and I already had low blood pressure, and flying at altitude is the equivalent of being at the top of the highest mountain.

Are you able to see a doctor there who might be able to explain why it happened to you and if there’s anything you can do to prevent it happening again like taking oxygen with you on the flight?

Having something like this happen is scary but even worse when you’re far away. Wishing you all the best and hoping you can find answers and support.

You can buy Ventolin over the counter in most countries.

I was wondering how you're feeling today. I don't know if you're there on holiday or to visit family but I hope you can enjoy your stay there without being overwhelmed the whole time by the anxiety of your return flight. When I had my experience, I don't remember much about it (thankfully!) but I was travelling with a friend who stuck by me throughout the ordeal. Are you travelling with someone? Thinking of you.
