Hello I wonder if someone could give me some advice? I have today finished a week of amoxicillin and prednisolone but I m not sure wether to take next lot the doctor gave me. I feel much better than I did although still a bit breathless and feel like I have a cold still. Still coughing up a lot of gunk and nose too. I am just confused, I’m scared it will come back and am very panicky it will. The doctor gave me steroid again but also doxycycline in case I needed them but do I?
Also I’ve heard some people are violently sick with this different anti biotic so I’m scared of that too! I’m scared of everything!
Sorry for wingeing so much but I know I’ll be panicking in morning wondering what to do. Thank you x

Your doctor is under a lot of pressure not to prescribe antibiotics, so if your doctor has given you a prescription for a different one, there will be a very sound reason for it. So I would suggest taking the new ABs and seeing if you do get any side effects, rather than worrying about them. It may well help stop your continuing infection.
I would take them, if the Dr prescribed for if the other meds didn't work. I am a bit confused why you have two lots of antibiotics and steroids. Did the Dr. think the amoxy. and prednisolone might not work, or? You don't really sound better. I hope some of the more knowledgable folk on here can advise and that you feel better soon. I have severe COPD, 3 exacerbations a year.
My pulmonary nurse has just advised to take steroids first and if feeling no better within 3 days start on antibiotics for two weeks in conjunction with steroids taken 6 tabs per night for 6 nights - this is for bronchiectasis - contact your doctor and ask for details as to why he has prescribed something different when probably you just need a second week of amoxicillin to thoroughly knock your bug on the head (which is what is normally prescribed now certainly for bronch.) Wishing you better.
I suggest you have a sample of your sputum analysed and then the appropriate antibiotic may be prescribed. Sounds as if the Doc is stabbing in the dark. We all suffer side effects in different ways from these antibiotics and at different times. Use what they offer you and find out for yourself.Best of luck.
thank you so much ergendl, Stamford, candyred, majji and hallentine47 for you feedback to my question. its so comforting to know that there is always someone out there to talk to about worries. I have had another week of amoxcillan which I asked for and everything seems ok now thank goodness. I know I get very scared about things but hopefully that will be my one and only flareup this winter! fingers crossed.
it is still sunny here on south coast so that's good, warms the house up a lot. I hope you are all keeping well and will stay that way xxxx
