So, it's been 3 hours since I took my first Clarithromycin and I feel sick and bit weird like fuzzy I think, body aches and my arm still feel like lead. Now obviously I'm not feeling well at all with my Bronhcitis so I don't know if it's the abs or not.
I think in the morning I will ring Drs see what they about side effects. I really want cough to go so am willing to put up with things.
How long do side effects usually last for? Is it the best idea to just put up with them to fight the infections?
Feels like I'm damned whatever!

Hi I think you should ring 111 and tell them about the side effects they will give you the right advice. Please ring them otherwise the side effects may make it worse for you. Please let us know how you get on.
I have the nausea with clarithromycin I can't remember exactly but it's food either one hour before or after. The leaflet will tell you or the chemist. Good luck. Jane
Hi I didn’t feel right with them and rang out of hours doc he told me to keep taking them persever because they would clear the infection and within 4 days they did but I took the full course apparently they are strong antibiotics. Have you got a bacterial chest infection. Take care xxx
Thank you, don't really know I haven't had X-ray but dr says it's bronchitis, im having them as I don't want to develop anything worse, I don't know if it's viral/bacterial. I get Bronchitis every year since pneumonia 4 years ago, also get acid reflux which always makes my cough far worse, take stuff for that too. I will carry on as I want to get better but will call Drs in morning to check. My tummy is making lots of strange sounds!
hi Shancock don’t worry I remember I had awful diearria with them too drink lots of water first priority to get rid of the infection it must be bacterial for the doc to give you antibiotics take care xxx
I always feel so much worse when taking Clarithromycin. Headaches , oral thrush, terrible metallic taste throughout the course, lack of appetite and nausea. I’m not allergic docs say these are very common side effects
Hi there, I’ve just yesterday finished a 7 day course of Clarithromycin and was taking them with co-Amoxiclav. I was given it in hospital by IV then when I got home in tablets. They made me feel a bit sick, lost my appetite, everything tastes yuck and gave me diarrhea but on the plus side they’ve made me feel a lot better, just want this cough to go completely now x
Like everyone else says they are strong antibiotics and I've had exactly the same reaction to them as you describe. Unless your symptoms worsen I'd keep taking them, they do work. Hope you soon feel better.
Hi Shancock, yes you will feel like this with this antibiotic. Clarithromycin is a strong antibiotic (it is my emergency med) so you must be really poorly. Don't worry about any side effects unless you feel worse than you did before you began the tabs, just grin and bear it. You will begin to feel better after a few days. Take care and let us know how you get on. Maximonkey
Thanks, today tummy feels much better today. Yes I will def keep taking them as I know they're really good ones and more than anything I want to get rid of this cough and breathless, back ache etc. Today I've eaten without feeling sick so maybe yesterday was so bad a it was my first day of them.
Yes this is normal ,you’ll feel worse before you get better ,they are really good antibiotics but again can cause thrush and horrible taste ,just persevere and you’ll feel fine !
Hi Shancock, hope you are feeling better by now. I started Clarithromycin last week too and for two days felt really rough. It's gone now except for foul taste in mouth but not sure infection has gone yet. For me its best to take them before food, especially breakfast, with lots of water. Best wishes
