Hi
Probably worth a proper assessment, 87/90 is not problematic if you recover fairly quickly.
thank you for that but I have noticed a difference on the time it takes me to recover and can sometimes get into panic mode
What happens if you don't have oxygen. I was told major organs may shut down. I think low oxygen level would be problematic. Or is it a fact that oxygen would not help?
Hi
I did say (, 87/90 is not problematic if you recover fairly quickly. )
The onus being on the fairly quickly.
A seriously danger level is below 70% where this a possibility of organ damage.
Around 80% oxygen therapy is recommended.
Mine was Ambulitory oxygen at 83% desaturation when walking .
With oxygen I can maintain 90/92 during exercise, which is acceptable.
They are more cautious with oxygen therapy than they use to be.
To much can also lead to problems, oxygen toxicity, CO2 retention.
I think you should request referral for proper assessment and keep a record of what is happening meantime, if your sats are consistently dropping it would indicate you may need oxygen when moving around. If you are able contact the respiratory team at your local hospital, your GP and the BLF helpline for further advice.
Take good care

thank you I am waiting on an appointment with my hospital consultant an hope to discuss this with him
I have the same problem. I was on oxygen for about 4 years because of the drop 87/90 with walking etc. Just went to havPt et and was told I don't need oxygen anymore. Really!! I thought and was told, I need the oxygen to prevent my major organs from shutting down. My PFT Was Good at 96, after all meds were taken, but went down again after walking and exercise. Still don't know the answer. Trying to find out.
In the states, if your oxygen level drops below 89% you are prescribed oxygen. If it only drops with activity it is so prescribed, if it it only drops at night (usually due to shallow breathing) it is so prescribed . We do a six minute walk test under medical supervision to determine if our oxygen level drops below 89% with activity. And yes, lack of oxygenation causes organ and brain damage. Best advice, get properly tested via a six minute walk test. All Best Wishes, judg69
Thank you for your reply it has been very helpful
When you say a six minute walking test are you expected to walk for the full six minutes I get out of breath walking around my kitchen can't see me doing six minutes
I hate the 6mwt, last time i stopped seven times for a rest and covered 275m, that was with oxygen. On my oxygen assessment i walked around on oxygen with a doctor monitoring my oxygen and adjusting the flow rate, that seems a more sensible method
Did my Tracking last week, QE B'ham, Usual 6 minute walk with Oxygen, Didn't stop at all, I felt better than Previous, which was good. All Good so I stay on the Transplant List. xxxx
hi all my last 6 min walk test they left me on 2 ltr ...didn't get to far desat down to 77-84 .
