Polution and COPD

I have a visitor who has been diagnosed with COPD and she is thinking of changing her job to one based in one place, rather than her present one, where she cycles round every day. The problem is we live in a very busy London Borough, and although the cycling is a good exercise, she does have to breathe whilst doing it !!! Are there any masks on the market which actually reduce the amount of poluting particulates we breathe in? You see people on the TV news in places like Japan, wearing masks when out, and so I wondered if they just "look good" or if there is any studies to prove their efficiency?

Hi

Lyanty anti pollution mask, from Amazon may be suitable.

Point to consider that a mask may also restrict your breathing.

It’s a bit of a catch 22.

Whilst a mask can reduce particular matter it would need to have an activated charcoal flter to remove the harmful gases like nitrous oxide and need to be changed regularly and as stone-UK points out there is also the restriction.

Your friend has the right idea with a change of job and obviously clued up to the pollution problem that we all face.
