Copd
Hi have you had a referral to a rehab course?
Hi and welcome! You say your doctor said you have COPD and gave you inhalers- which inhalers were they and did a nurse show you how to correctly use them?
It appears they weren't very caring in their diagnosis. Poor you. That's just not good enough.
Stop smoking, get your BMI to an acceptable level, start daily exercising, eat healthily, avoid colds (& so people with colds/crowds in cold season), avoid contaminated air (SMOKING, bad traffic fumes, wood burning stoves, BBQ smoke, bonfires, etc) get the yearly flu jab + the once only pneumonia jab ...and keep your fingers crossed.
And stop smoking... yes I know said it thrice before... so STOP SMOKING NOW.
Best wishes
Drink as much water as you can during the day which helps keep mucous thinner therefore easier to get up. Stay away from anybody who smokes or has a cough/cold make sure of a yearly flu jab and exercise as much as your able. Eat healthily and avoid any fumes that affect you badly. I no longer use any aerosol sprays and am careful with which cleaning products I can manage
Poor you bad enough being told that you have COPD without any advice or support. I find this site most helpful as people with copd are living active happy lives and many seem to have coped with it for years. As others have said decent diet, exercise as much as you are able and remember it is only a label. Maybe worth looking for a different doctor. Every Blessing.
Strongly recommend asking GP to refer for physio-run pulmonary rehab course. My experience covered all aspects of life with COPD - proper inhaler use, important breathing exercises, diet, lessening of anxiety by relaxation methods, as well as an introduction to appropriate structured physical exercise.
Much more useful than just talking to GP as much more specialised knowledge on offer, Including in my case negotiating with GP over prescription of a different inhaler and provision of emergency medicines to use quickly in case of exacerbation of condition.
Greetings. I couldn’t agree with u more Audrey, the rehab has helped me no end and I have been going for 10 months now. I have had to pay after the 6 weeks NHS part, but well worth every penny. I would thoroughly recommend it. Good luck all and best wishes.👍🤓
Hi Hun, I agree. Love going to Rehab, Unlike you we are not allowed to pay for continued Rehab, as I would do, only our 6 weeks, then call back in 1 year. So much for the NHS being a Whole, obviously Different areas are affected . I am actually going to visit me Resp Nurses this Morning with naughty cakes and to update them on my Valve Procedure from the 7th June. This afternoon my First day back at Breathe easy Exercise Class, I'm eager to get going, and meet up with all my old friends. Keep at it Rosieboy, Love n Hugs. Carolina XXXX

BREATHING EXCERISE
Scrub,
Hi, not much helps COPD. Learn to pace yourself to do things at a far slower pace. Accept that there are things you can no longer do or do them far slower. You will probably easily get out of breath, don't panic sit down & relax yourself to a calm state, then start again slowly. Eat sensibly no fast foods & exercise as much as you can without over doing it. Keep away from stairs & hills/slopes or take them easy.
There is no simple answer to this problem, just learn how you can live with it.
