The very first and most important thing to do now is to quit smoking. Smoking will accelerate the decline in your lung function. The destruction of yours lungs is permanent and will never get better, only worse, you need to slow that from happening. Diet, exercise and taking your meds religiously also play a big part. It is not a death sentence by any means unless you ignore medical advice.
Hello Tania46. The very best people to advise you on what questions to ask are the BLF nurses on the helpline. Ring them on 03000 030 555 on Monday-Friday during office hours and they will be happy to help you.
I'm reeling a bit. Did you really mean to say that you wouldn't get a lung function test till the end of the year with the NHS ? Things must be getting bad now. Anyway, I digress ! Sorry to hear you've got thyroid problems but with the emphysema don't worry too much, you can expect to live long after you've collected your pension - IF you stop smoking !
In your place, as you're paying for this test (which is usually carried out by a technician ) I'd ask to see a doctor for a full explanation of what the results mean. Put that cigarette out and stop worrying. Sheila x
Thank you and yes I was told I wouldn't be seen till the end of year I am so stressed but reading things on here has put my mind at rest just need to stop smoking I'm going to a clinic but I also have lots of questions to ask at hospital now thanks to all on here x
Hello Tania46, I agree with the advice 2greys has given you about quitting smoking asap. The main thing is being in control of the illness not letting the illness being in control of you. You will find that following medical guidelines will make your excistance a whole lot easier. I wish you well Tania , please stay Intouch with us, we are here for you. ✋️😊
