Amoxicilliin and Prednisolone

I've used for many a year.

Making sure they rescue me

And the chest infections clear

But recently Amoxicilliin,

No longer works as well.

So Doxycycline was brought in

The infection there to quell.

In future now my rescue pack

Clarithromycim will begin

I only hope it works as well.

As did Amoxicilliin.

That is a coincidence. My rescue pack from the consultant at the hospital is doxycycline. He said it’s better. Let’s hope we won’t need to use them any time soon . Keep well 🙂

Amoxicillin has never worked for me and I always end up asking for doxycycline. Yet it’s the antibiotic in my rescue pack. Think I will ask my consultant to write a letter! 😉

I hope your new rescue pack works. Mine is also amoxicillin and pred, but I have been very lucky this winter, only having had to use them once. I had been on doxycycline for about four years as a prophylactic, but last August I was changed to azithromycin because the doxycycline wasn’t stopping a lot of the infections and the difference was amazing! Good luck with the doxy Don.

Doxy, makes me violently sick 10mins after taking so had to stop after a few days.

Clarithomycin for rescu pack, and Azithromycin for the winter months three times per week.

I have the same reaction ,after 5 min taking one Doxy ,i am really sick.

Hope they work for you Don .😊

in reply toSusan1200

Thanks, Susan1200 , they do seem to be working okay for me. :-)

in reply toinhaler1

Me too !!! I vomit 30 mins after swallowing...without fail so I use amoxicillin and azithromysin. Chemist tells me not to take azithromycin at the same time as amoxicillin . Consultant tells me to take it so I say OK to the chemist and follow consultants advice.

My emergency pack is amoxy 500 and pred. Finding that often need further course of another antibiotic and pred, clarythromyacin seem to knock it on head, but very strong. Think drs are loath to give a diff antibiotic as standard as ecause of over use they are now becoming less effective

Hope they work for you don x x

It became clear last night that my main problem is a common cold! Whilst coughing up stuff of the usual kind came a Quatermass like flood of light green from other orifices and I felt like I was burning up. This morning wet and sticky, I remembered that I bought a Digital Thermometer a while back so took my temp. The darn thing beeps away, talking to my hearing aids, before showing me 34.9c. Googling that suggests that I'm suffering from hypothermia! :-o

I've never been much interested in what exactly is wrong with me. At my age most things are worn out or malfunctioning and I'm fortunate in being able to trust my medics to keep me going. Right now I feel much better, so that will do me. :-)

I take roxithromycin daily. It helps keep the bugs away that my grandkids are prone to cassy.

Hi Guys. I have just googled the differences between the two. doxycycline prevents bacteria forming were Amoxicillin KILLS the bacteria. Was interesting reading to me, it points to Amoxicillin working better. I have been taking Augmentin which has 500mg Amoxicillin + 125mg Clavulanic acid. Plus Prendislone which works best for me. Have tried most of the others. No were near as good as I take now.

I find the Clarithromycim works the best for me only downside is I find it leaves a horrible taste in my mouth but I can live with that

I find the yellow one forgot the name starts with a c works better for me

I have Augmentin which Shaurine mentions - the clavulinic acid makes amoxicillin work with people for whom amoxicillin on its own doesnt work any more. Pretty strong though.

You're very lucky Don-Rhymer getting such good treatment my Doctor will not prescribe me steroids, he gave me 50 days of Doxycycline 100 mgs. I was in hospital May 2017 pneumonia. I have never got over it, I have used ambulatory oxygen, I'm a retainer. For 4years. I have Emphysema stage? 4probably. I don't visit the Doctor now. I went 7weeks ago when the Doxycycline was prescribed and have been unable to have my weekly treat of visiting Tesco for half an hour. I do drive there, it's only half a mile away. But can't manage it now. I get quite envious when reading posts of how people have been to see their Consultants and have other plans for further investigation etc. Even some going abroad for holidays, even hiking .

I think I've missed the boat along the way.

I loved the rhyme .
