Well you would have to drink gallons of it, I like my green tea 🍵 but when I get an infection I stick with antibiotics.. if one doesn’t work another one will, they are so many out there.. this resistance campaign aims at people who will take antibiotics for an ordinary cold not for the likes of us..plus I think media tend to love worst case scenarios as it sells.

Absolutely agree with Happylondon on this. Media need to stop panicking people who need to use antibiotics for serious health conditions. But idea of tea plus antibiotics is intriguing.

I can't drink green tea it contains too much caffeine, I like camomile. But if you can drink it then a cup or two a day is very good for you anyway.

My reading of the study was that it showed that antibiotics worked better when taken in conjunction with green tea.

..."We tested green tea in combination with antibiotics against 28 disease-causing microorganisms belonging to two different classes," Dr Mervat Kaseem, of the university's pharmacy faculty, said in a prepared statement. "In every single case, green tea enhanced the bacteria-killing activity of the antibiotics. For example, the killing effect of chloramphenicol was 99.99 percent better when taken with green tea than when taken on its own in some circumstances."...

As I said they don’t mention how much you have to drink so it is effective.

Apart from that I have also talked about drinking thyme and rosemary tea before in this forum as mentioned in the article.

Personally I don’t like the underlying allusion about resistance etc..

Nothing new about the benefits of all those teas as anti-infective while you are sick but if it can enhance antibiotics

It is certainly worth a try if you believe in it.

Happylondon, did u read the article? You need to drink the tea at the same time as you take your antibiotics, it has worked for me this time, and will be drinking it again the next time i get an infection and need antibiotics. Hope u all will try it, anything that can help to rid of those damn infections is worth a try, is it not?

Glad it worked for you. I have been drinking green tea for years antibiotics or not, except when in hospital I suppose, honestly I can’t tell you if is working better..I use green sencha tea. I have been trying this Protect Chinese tea this winter Qi Cha tea to boost up my immune system I had a good winter I suppose I just got another box to see if it helped me again as I had a Spring chest infection! I also think the jab wears off after 6 months, that’s what the doctor tokd me.

My daughter uses Immune support Yogi tea and she never gets colds and coughs.

So who knows..

Good luck to you.

If we read that article carefully, it did`nt say that this method will clear up every possible infection, but it did say that it was beneficial to many that were tested, it says to drink this tea "when you take your antibiotic" (tablet or pill) but since most are slow release i decided to drink the tea around half an hour after taking the capsule, and just so you all know this worked using doxy again, this bug was resistant to this antibiotic first time around, then was given clarithromycin and bug returned also, was given long term once a day doxy from specialist, but after stumbling accross this study , i up'd my dose to normal level to try this green tea, and it really has worked, i`m so glad coz this bug was really knocking me around for the last 3 months.

Please try it; if u have a resistant bug, it really might help you, if you do it as they say and to use just Green tea, i for one will use almost anything if it will make me feel better, and just so you know, i have chronic bronchitis and mild bronchiectasis ( doctor reckons very mild tasis bordering on it being there just) but symptoms not mild to live with!!!!

Thank you. Be careful with doxy and your kidneys, certainly up your fluid intake.

I had clarithromycin 500 for 8 days like you it did nothing then I thought doxy as usual but the Consultant said no, he said no good for the kidneys there has been some research done so I had Pristinamycin for 7 days. I was better within 48 hours..finding the right antibiotics is often the key.

That's very interesting ivok. I already drink peppermint and camomile tea but I'll give this a try. Sheila x

Thank you very much for posting the green tea link. If our antibiotics can be given a boost by drinking green tea, I'm willing to try it. I did a little more research and found a lengthy article from NCIB. Page 7 of the article talks about the synergy of green tea and antimicrobials.

Kpacific; thanks for the link, i have been browsing NCBI articles for a couple of months now, this has me wondering why are`nt gp`s brought uptodate about things like this, sure more study needs to be done, but there is evidence that things like green tea do work( as i found out now for myself).

As i was a smoker, i never new that smoking depleted vitamin A, which in turn is the very reason why damage to the lungs form, if i had known this years ago, i could have taken steps to slow down the formation of this sickness, like increasing vegetable intake particularly veges with higher vit A and vit E values.

No; i`m not sorry at all for smoking, i simply enjoy it more than anything in this world, and i`m am trying to reverse this sickness as much as possible, through my diet and exercise, and when i feel i have done a reasonable job of reversing it, i will be back on the ciggs, but the way it`s going here in Australia, the do- gooders are doing there best to wipe ciggs from existence, by the year 2020 a packet of 25`s will be close to $40.00 a packet, i dont care what anyone says, that is ridiculous and an attack on an individuals right to freedom of choice.

End of rant!!!

I think GPs have an awful lot of paperwork to do that gets in the way of reading up about things like this.
