Stages?

I'd like to start by thanking everyone for the help and support I have with my last post. As you can tell I'm not one for commenting but I have been reading a lot of other posts with interest. I was wondering if anyone can explain the stages - people talk about Stage 1, Stage 3, etc. I don't want to google it as last time I was set to bury myself LOL

I have been diagnosed with COPD - Emphasemia

Would this be stage 1 or something else?

Kevin

Hi

COPD the umbrella term for chronic bronchitis and emphysema, as four stages.

Stage one Mild >80%

Stage two moderate 50-79%

Stage three severe 30-49%

Stage four very sever <30%

as determined by a Spirometer test.

If you have recently been diagnosed ask you GP for a fuller explanation.

Like you I am also confused. In 2011 I was told I had emphasemia then I was told I didn't have it.

I have just got access to my medical records online which states there were emphasemic changes to the lungs in 2011.

About 4 weeks ago taken to hospital because I couldn't breathe and had extensive pain in the back of my lungs. The results were stage 2 COPD.

Had a spirometer test last week and was told I had stage 1 COPD. The nurse said from the results it looks like I've got asthma and not COPD.

So much conflicting advice, very little information and apart from using inhalers no other advice has been given.
