I wish I could help, but everywhere I’ve tried has turned me down. Myself and my wife both have health issues no insurer wants to touch with a 50 foot barge pole. Sorry Susan.
In 2011 my husband was diagnosed with a very rare lung condition - he was 70 at the time. Because it is so rare there is no prognosis, treatment etc ( it’s called Idiopathic Pulmonary Haemosiderosis, not to be confused with IPF. ) We thought that would be an end to visiting our son & his family who live in America, in fact the Consultant dealing with Mike said that the cost would probably be prohibitive. Most insurance companies hadn’t even heard of it but I discovered Avanti who were brilliant & gave us a really good deal. We were able to visit three times before sadly Mike passed away four years after his diagnosis. Hope you manage to get something.
Thank you Helen08,for taking time to answer my question. First my condolences to you and your family ,l got a quote this afternoon ,so i shall try Avanti tomorrow ,as i love to go back home to Switerzerland a couple of times a year but i find travel insurances are not wanting to insure people with COPD and if they do it is too expensive.
Dear hallentine47 just to let you know,I telephoned allcear this morning,it cost 467 pound for the year ,which is still quite expensive as ,I am hoping to book my holiday for this month,I can not get an insurance for a month as it's not 💯 percent I shall be going this month it all depends on my breathing,as normally I travel alone but with having Pneumonia twice this year,I have lost a little confidence,so hopefully my son will come with me as I shall be visiting family and friends,I can only stay a few days as my son must work,a few days is better than nothing.
I hope your breathing better today 🐞 and feeling well.
I am so grateful for you being so kind,😀 have a lovely weekend 🙏
Where you are going eg (assuming you're in UK/Eu) USA will be more expensive than Europe
How long you are going for.
What you are doing - skiing/cruising will be more than lying on the beach.
What your ailments are, what condition you are in, what meds you are on, when you were last treated, when you were last in hospital, what investigations you are waiting for, if your meds have been changed recently etc.
There are specialist companies that will price themselves out of some destinations and others that specialise in them.
So, be prepared to spend some time searching & filling in medical details- there are no short cuts to an extensive search... unless you get lucky with a good price on your first go.
You need a good search - a comparison site is worth a go in the first instance - try Medical Travel Comparison, I've had great results - £29 for me & partner, 10 days in Egypt, with COPD & historical heart condition, high cholesterol, high blood pressure & 7 tablets &2 inhalers per day.
I have used Moneysupermarket.com in the past as it has a good system for recording existing conditions and giving an accurate rate comparison. Can't guarantee it will give you a cheap deal, but might be worth a try.
Thanks Susan. I have just bought a mobility scooter to help me get around and went out on it for the first time this morning. Lovely sunny day birds singing and no struggling to walk for a change. Same thing tomorrow, no stopping me now.
Hi Grayjay,I am so pleased that you have brought a Mobility Scooter,at least you can drive around without getting out of breath and to enjoy the Sunshine, you really don't know how happy 😀I feel for you ,so now no excuse not wanting to go out , enjoy your Scooter and enjoy, enjoy 🛵
Wow! That's a lot, keep trying though . That's probably the main reason that we're holidaying at home this year, it's getting too much. I wouldn't dream of going abroad without adequate insurance. What I would have paid has almost paid for my scooter. So I'll put it in my car boot and it's Cornwall here I come.😎
That sounds ideal ,problem is Switzerland is my home that is why i want to go on holiday ,as i like to see family and friends and go shoping at C&A its so reasonable ,most of all to see my beautiful country ,as it could be my last visit,we never know with our health.
When are you going to cornwall ? I heard its a beautiful place .
Hi, Well it seems that you have a good reason for wanting to travel and unfortunately you'll have to pay for the insurance. Was that quoted for a singe trip or annual? Switzerland must be a beautiful country, and I think that you're lucky to have your ties there.
Regarding Cornwall, we used to go there every year when we had young children and it was our favourite place. Always came home with a sun tan as the weather in that area was the warmest. Also very beautiful coastline.
Hello Grayjay,I have heard the weather is nearly always nice in Cornwall.
I went to the post office yesterday and I was speaking to the manager and telling her about problems with insurance so she said try the post office insurance I said no as I was turned down a few years ago,she said try again so I did ,I finally got a travel insurance for 249 pound, with out any problems., it's an annual one.so I am pleased about that.
I hope you and your family enjoy your holidays in Cornwall.I hope your feeling well in your self and breathing well.,😁
