COPD emphysema with no straightforward answer
You will need to get a definitive answer from your doctor. But in general, the here is a list of the severity with the FEV1 readings:-
Stage 1 - mild: 80% or above
Stage 2 - moderate: 50-79%.
Stage 3 - severe: 30-49%.
Stage 4 - very severe: below 30%
Hi ggeorgiou,
I'm in a similar position, but the consultant undertokk my Spirometry whilst I was coughing & wheezing at the beginning of march, nearly all of which has since stopped. The readings then were "His FEV1 today was 1. 7, FVC 3.0". I then ran these into an on-line calculator for age 71 & height 175.2, male, & came up with 52% on FEV1 & 73% on FVC. The bottom line stated 'FEV1/FVC Ratio: 56% against 71% Predicted. Showed all of this to the Pulmonary Care nurse at the GP & she had very little if anything to say to clarify my status other than "well I certainly don't feel you need any inhalers currently!".
Help please
