Costochondritis

This is soooo annoying having costochondritis!

I'm having less frequent stabbing pains however now my back is being affected, therefore I keep having strange sensations down my back, especially when travelling, this makes me a bit anxious but luckily I don't think it is affecting my breathing. I keep having horrible cramping feelings on the top left ribs and on my bottom ribs just below my sternum especially on my left side 🙄 I have tried the gel and it has helped a little but the cramps still remain, and these are making me a little more breathless.

I still can't get full deep breaths but my breathing is getting more regular so that's a positive!

I just hope that these cramping pains stop because even thought they're skeletal, they still make me worried for some reasons!

I have had inflammation of the intercostal muscles ...very painful, but it eased after a while. I know that condition is different from yours but maybe my remedies can help.

Can you try and consciously relax your chest muscles so that they are not tight and stretched. Think of your rib cage and diaphragm and just let them ease .......very difficult as they are always being used to breathe......but breathe gently with a relaxed upper chest and belly.

There are meditations on you tube to help with pain.....I found the NHS one for pain relief very helpful. Painkillers helped me too, and warmth. It's difficult to relax when you are in pain.

Distraction helped me not think of the pain.....have you got some relaxing music you can listen too when you are travelling.

Take care.

I see an osteopath for my back occasionally, and saw him about my intercostal muscle pain. He showed me how to stop the diaphragm from being in spasm, and how to massage the sore intercostal muscles to help relax them. It really makes a difference.
