I have used eucalyptus in the past and found it helpful, lots of steam and hot water to drink too helps me. Vapour rub at night is useful too. You could try sinutab pills from the chemist in the short term. Sterimar nasal saline is good for cleansing the nose. Neilmed sinus rinse which u can get in chemists and on Amazon too is really good to clean the nose, it's natural saline and is like giving your nose a shower really.

Thanks for the kind advice, I've been using the Sterimar and relieves the congestion for 30 mins or so....GP prescribed Beconase which I've been using for 3 weeks but it doesn't seem to be helping, will be popping back to the surgery next week I think...

hi, i use both sterimar as a maintenance measure all the time. When it gets really blocked i also use beconase, this can take couple of weeks for it to feel clear. Vicks is good too.... But other than that i am just adding to what has been said, steam and drink loads. I also prop myself up in bed at night so it trickles down my throat rather than block my nose! (attractive!!!) oh and fresh air, window open at night time...

If we opened our windows round hete we would be robbed while in bed.

Sterimar is good for daily use but the sinus rinse is the best thing by far, I'd stay away from actual Decongestants like Vicks and otrivine as thy can make the problem even worse an create more problems in the long term.

Try Olbas oil either on a hanky or using the hand held cup inhaler - really helps

My inhalers are Breatheasy and I put some small pieces of lint inside . Not to many and put about six drops of Olbas Oil on the lint close it up and give it a few minutes to soak in and breath it in. Sure helps me. Hope this is clear. Good luck .H

Vicks First Defence Nasal spray cleared up my sinus problems and continues to do so (I use it daily not that that is recommended) also protects against viral infections - works for me but may not necessarily work for everyone - good luck xxx

I'm getting desperate here, been using Beconase for 3 weeks but seems to make it worse!......been gradually getting worse this problem, a year ago was using Otrivine but is not recommended for long term use, rebound etc but I'm trying saline washes, steam, my windows are always open because I can hardly breathe through my nose! Really getting me down now, I have a dental appointment tomorrow and will throw caution to the winds and use Otrivine before I go (phobic about the dentist) because I go into panic mode anyway lol!.... thanks for the help, may give it a go.....how long have you been using it?

Hi I have been using Vicks daily for about a year. Like you before I had sinus problems and tried many things like nasal rinse/wash etc. nothing worked always had the feeling I had something deep in the base well of my particularly right nostril, and in my sinuses, and tried Vicks after someone on this site recommended it - well it worked within a week and since then my nostrils have stayed clear - except of course when I have had a heavy cold but even then this has not gone up into my sinuses or stayed blocked more than a day as it would before. Also I found in using it daily I reduced my rate of infections from about one every 3 weeks to one every 3 months which was great and another reason I keep using it daily. although this winter this has unfortunately gone to one about every 6 weeks but still better than before and I believe this winter has been a particularly bad one for infections and none of mine fingers crossed so far have been severe. Anyway worth a try if it does not work nothing lost if it does a lot to gain let me know if you do how you get on - cheers good luck xxx
