No side effects for me. It was stressed to me that the once weekly tablet you have to take at the same time (first thing when I get up) of day , same day of week. Take it first thing with a full glass of water do not sit down for 30mins, do not replace water with coffee tea or fruit juice.

I took alendronic acid over a roughly 3 year period around 2000 when I had osteopenia. Did everything right, always stayed upright, took it with water etc. And still ended up with Barretts Oesophagus (pre-cancerous oesophagaeal condition caused by acid reflux). Im now over the osteoporosis line with my hips, though not my spine, and have decided not to take any more osteoporosis medication but just Vitamin D3 and Vitamin K2 (Mark7) - the latter directs calcium to the bones so it doesn't calcify in the wrong place.

The side effects will be listed on the patient leaflet inside the medication packaging. After my experience I decided I wouldn't take any more big pharma medication for osteoporosis but use diet and exercise to address it. If it gets worse or if I get a low-impact fracture I may have to rethink. For now at least my GP and osteo nurse support my decision.

I found taking Alendronic Acid made my vertigo really bad so stopped taking it and just have AdCal now. The scan I had showed I have bone thinning, prob due to Prednisolone use. xx Moy
