Hello to all. Wondered if anyone has a similar experience. After many many months of tests I have been diagnosed with Asthma. The problem I have is SOB, nothing seems to give me relief, I have had scans both CT and MRI, stress tests, echo cardiogram, Spirometry all results are in the normal range. Yet I am always out of breath, sometimes when talking I get SOB, I do meditation, try to be active, practice correct breathing and do use it, but still the SOB persists. The Consultant has discharged me to GP care, the GP says I will probably just have to learn to live with it as the Asthma is controlled. I know I should be pleased that all appears to be well and I am grateful have been given accident reliever med from Ventalin but no change, Any body got any ideas please?

Hi Rosalada
I would phone the Asthma UK helpline..
If the asthma is controlled you shouldn’t feel so breathless..normally they say that if you take your reliever 4 times or more a week Asthma isn’t controlled..
Are they sure it it is asthma? Do you have an action plan?
Have you had a CT scan?
Keep on pushing my dear until you get answers to your questions and feel an improvement.

She did say she has had a CT scan Fran! x
What meds are you taking other than Ventolin? If Ventolin is not working for you as a rescue inhaler...try ProAir Brand....It might work better for you or your body might respond better to it.
Get on a maintenance program like Qvar or symbicort till you get it under control...Then I would do Buteyko breathing exercises ...it will help your symptoms and minimize in taking less Medication. This is just my suggestion....Get a good asthma doctor. But also do natural alternatives if you can. Health Diet....Healthy Gut is the Key.
Feel better,
Sagitar
Thanks Sagittarius, Forstair as well as Ventalin, I do keep to healthy eating as much as possible but perhaps I need to be more stringent, I have tried Cannabis Oil and Tumeric but no great improvement with either which I tried for 4 months, will speak to GP re your suggestions and look into Buteyko as someone else has made that suggestion. Regards and Thanks again
Hello Rosalada .
I'm sorry you are struggling at the moment. Do you have SOB on exertion or is it all the time?
Has your doctor talked about pulmonary rehabilitation? If not it may be worth it to inquire.
It's hard to be breathless for me on exertion. I can't imagine what it would be like to have it all the time.
Sending a gentle hug.

Thanks for the reply Cas, the breathlessness is mainly on the slightest of exertions, having a shower or bath is a nightmare, most of the time my mid chest feels very tight and I have to take quite deep breaths even when seated. I live mainly in Spain so not easy to attend, rehab but maybe I should rethink things. Thank you for the Gentle Hug and the nice bright Yellow flower, much appreciated. Trish xx
Hi, you say you are practising correct breathing......do you mean gentle belly breathing with a relaxed chest and diaphragm, using your nose ....or ' deep breathing' ...not gentle?
For years I breathed the wrong way round , especially when I was worried, with tight upper chest breaths ...belly went in on the in breath instead of out.
I learnt Buteyko Breathing and found it helpful, but it is not suitable for everyone
Do you have a preventer inhaler as well as the Ventolin....I use Clenil now. I wonder how much Ventolin you are using.
Have you had any allergy tests....my asthmatic daughters have multiple allergies including house dust and pets?
Sorry for all the questions, but I know what it's like to be short of breath and to see my daughters struggling as well in the past.
Take care and please keep in contact .
No problem re the questions, Knitter, it's belly breathing I have been shown, belly out on in breath to count of 4 hold for 4 then out slowly for 8-10, not taking an in breath immediately but breathing in before the need to gasp deeply. The preventer I have is Forstair, I use Ventalin prior to expected exertion and three times daily as well, I know that's too much but GP doesn't seem concerned, as you said it's not pleasant. Thanks for your reply
