Unfortunately magsjamie it will. Your father will still be inhaling the tobacco smoke and all of the poisons it contains. His partner needs to be persuaded to go outside to smoke and not to go too close to him immediately after having a cigarette as the smoke clings to clothing for a while afterwards.
Good advice from mrs mummy maybe she shoud put a coat on whilst shegoes outside then take it off soon s she comes in. Keeping the smell of smoke down as much as possible if she cant stopmaybe suggest she invests in a vape best wishes .
Sorry to hear your dad's partner is being so selfish and smoking in the house when your Dad has given up bless him. She needs to go outside for sure because passive smoking is not good for anyone especially someone with COPD and asthma. Well done to your dad for stopping I hope you can convince her to either smoke outside or stop smoking herself, she will become a victim to COPD too if she continues. I stopped smoking 5 years ago after losing my husband to COPD/Emphysema/pneumonia but I now suffer recurrent chest infections which I put down to being a smoker for so many years. I do feel better for stopping but the damage is already done.
Best of luck xx Hugs
