On xmas eve night all was calm and relaxed, then two coughs from yours truly, and I go unconscious and appear to be fitting which scared the hell out my wife as she thought I was on the way out !! ... Test have indicate I may have Cough-Syncope. My oxygen levels (even when on oxygen 24/7) are always low but under excertion (getting dressed or even coughing) my oxygen levels drop dangerously low resulting in my brain becoming short of blood/oxygen which causes me to black out .. I understand cough- syncope is quite common in COPD victims and just wanted any sufferers point of view while I wait for the next one
On another issue the Pallative Doctors are thinking about putting me on GABAPENTIN to try and ease coughing -Is there anyone out there on Gabapentin and how are they finding it ( and don' say it's in the kitchen drawer LOL).
Got to get my self fit for all the New years Parties and only a short time to do it LOL

Oh dear me Owen, that’s not nice. Pete goes faint when he coughs so hard his throat partially collapses and he can’t take a breath in. It lasts seconds but is scary. I just talk to him.
Petes on gabapentin as a pain killer. His body is too used to it now though but he still takes them and still coughs. Give them a go but read leaflet first.
when I gave up smoking I was left with this horrendous cough I would cough so much my level would drop and I would feel light headed I put it down to lack of oxygen getting to my brain. Gabapentin is used for lots of things even nerve pain I use nortriptline but might have to come off it as my results came back and my kidneys were showing to be raised. Good luck I do hope the meds work for you its not nice or comfortable when you are constantly coughing.
Cheers Onamission - They suggested Nortriptline as an alternative but the problem with either of them is that the medicines I'm already taking to ease my condition have taken their toll on my liver and kidneys and think specialists need 'Heep Big Pow-wow' to decide which track to go down ??
