Pulmonary hypertension and coughing

Dear All,

My dad is 72 years old. He was diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension in 2001. Back then our doctor said that his condition was stage 1.

During winter time coughing is a problem we cannot seem to solve. It does not allow him to sleep well. During day time he is mostly quite with intermittent coughing. At night it is sometimes very very difficult to handle.

We have tried vaporiser, sleeping in an armchair and a host of drugs. Nothing appears to be a decisive solution. December to March period is awful, after March it is as if none of that really happened.

If there is anyone out there who can possibly help us, we would really appreciate it.

I know several members have this problem, so hopefully one may be along soon who can give you more help than I can. All the best, M.

I have asthma /COPD , so I don't have any experience of pulmonary hypertension either, sorry.

But I do know that breathing in cold air can make me cough, even opening the fridge door can set me off sometimes.

I know my bedroom is cold at night, but at the same time I cannot sleep if it's too warm and the air dries out . Catch 22 in many ways.

I tried a humidifier at night but that made me worse and the air was too damp......to put it mildly, the floor and walls were wet! I am using an air purifier at night to see if that will help. I also sip water during the night to ease my dry throat.

I hope someone else can give you more ideas. Sending best wishes .
