Lactate levels

My husband is back in hospital following an admission for pneumonia a few weeks ago. His lactate levels are high and they are not sure why. Has anyone else had this and can tell us what to expect?

Hi Thomac

It is common to measure lactate levels when one has pneumonia to assess the extent of the infection. They will decrease with the treatment.

Why? There could be a bacterial cause or a metabolic one but they will find out, don’t worry xx

Thanks we are pretty new to this, despite my husband having a chronic progressive lung condition for the past 17 years this is the first time he has had a serious infection.

Hi thanks for this, I think the problem is identifying the source of the infection as nothing showing on X-ray CT or bloods.

That’s good news then, if it was organic it would show x
