Trip to UK. Expecting seriously cold weather!

Hi everyone! I'm heading to the UK again in early December for a week and expecting to really feel the cold. Not at all sure that the trip is such a good idea health wise but I simply can't not see my family and new grandchildren. My doctor has said I'm fit to fly and I can sort all the oxygen needs as I did previously. I'm not going on my own this time as hubby is coming to, so that's good. I will use First Defence and Nose Guard liberally, and have proper masks for the plane and any busy areas.

I have a question ... quite some time ago someone posted on here about a sort of breathable neck scarf to lift up over the lower half of the face. This would be great not just for warmth but to cover the oxygen tubes up my nose (oh vanity vanity!) Does anyone know what these things are called and where I might get one?

Thanks in advance for your help. Mx

You are right to be prepared. It's seriously chilly here at the moment. I hope you have a lovely holiday.

They are called buff and available as headwear and neckwear. They are lightweight and easy to wear and vary in price. Amazon have a good selection.

You will have great fun but wrap up well. Enjoy your stay. Xxxx

The Buff. Brilliant piece of kit. I prefer the fine wool ones of a single colour. In fact a child size suits me better as I've a small head £12 in wool. They're treated with something that wicks away the moisture from breathing so you don't end up with something soggy. I just wear one around my neck & pull it up when going out in the cold, also invaluable on London Tube trains to prevent breathing in so many germs. They also pull up over your head.

A friend on O2 has just flown to USA, she said all was brilliant apart from coping with 10 weeks worth of baggage. Safe journey. Peege

Snoods are lovely I have one got one and yes it's chilly here at present not sure which part of country your going to but generally North is a good few degrees colder than South. I'm in London and it's been frosty last few days but at least not damp.

Near Bath in the South West. You're right about the damp being worse. Especially when it's cold AND damp i.e raining! :-)

I have a buff and find it is really good at keeping the cold out but as I wear glasses they do steam up a bit!

Hi Michelle. its not too cold here yet, about 5C, frosty at night. More rain than anything else.

It seems to be the wind chill which makes it feel worse, wrap up warm and have a really great time. I hope you have a really fantastic Christmas.

Steve.

MichelleT51 - dress wisely for our cold weather and I'm certain both you and hubby will enjoy every single moment spent with your "new additions" to the family. BUT.....on the condition you send us a cute photo if that is ok with Mum!?

Have a safe trip and enjoy!

Thank you .... I certainly will. I'm going to look like a polar bear with mask and goggles.

Will definitely post a pic on return. Mxx
