Extreme old age..

We saw the doctor..couldn’t believe she kept on talking to Mum about her extreme old age!! Honestly Mum felt she was lucky to still be alive on the week after her 90th birthday..🙃

Anyway, anything she mentioned had to do with her extreme old age, so nothing special, which I said to Mum is good to know but she gave 3 or 4 meds, for high blood pressure etc

And she was sick as a dog, kept on sneezing and coughing in Mum’s face. I aired the flat and said to Mum wash your hands with extra soap 😃

Byeee and thankssss for the home visit!!😇

Now I’m going to the chemist’s xx

Hi Fran.

Ugh! If anything gets me annoyed its people who cough in your face when they have a cold. But what's worse is that in your mum's case it was a doctor who should know better.

Your mum is indeed a very special lady. Ninety is an amazing achievement.

My father in law died at the age of a hundred years and five months. But in Japan it's not so unusual nowadays.

Wishing your mum a happy birthday.

Wow quite an age..it’s true that longevity is well-known in Japan..amazing after all the nuclear waste and wars they have been through..

Thanks for Mum Cas 😊😊

Some First Defence might be useful Fran. Lots of us use it here. It's made by Vick and you squirt it up your nose to make colds etc last a shorter time but also you can use it profilacticaly (sp?) if you feel you've been around people who might be infectious. Health people are often the worst at infection control. That doctor should be disciplined.

in reply toO2Trees

Yes but Mum won’t use anything like that..She should have put on a mask..and told us she has spent the morning seeing people with stomach bugs!! Mum said she didn’t even washed her hands, well I didn’t shake hers like we do in France, just waved byeee 😃

my jury is still out on the first defence,i listened to peer pressure on here and took some to the hospital, used it constantly and still managed to pick up my chest infection.still as you say the doctor's lack of concern with Fran's mum is shocking unprofessional behaviour and it's off to the Guillotine for her as the French don't do wrist slapping lol x

Ahh your mum is a true star, has she got friends in her sheltered housing complex for lunch and scrabble and just a bit of company now and again?bless her i hope she will live for ever or at least stay mentally with it and remain as active as possible.unfortunately both my parents died in their very early seventy's,so genetically, and neither had serious long term conditions, my number is on the cards for not receiving the queens birthday telegram, not to worry i'm a republican lol x

in reply toskischool

Sorry for your loss Skischool..I have both parents, and it is hard for them..Age is not only genetic, I think we are being repaired all the time^^ although society doesn’t cater well for the elderly.

She has friends yes, less and less as she says, but she makes new ones. She is very active considering she has had several fractures, has had a knee and a hip replacement recently, she trots with her cane..

But I think she is bored. They don’t do much in that home, people stay in their flats. She used to go to evening classes etc..anyway we are now thinking of a move..she said to the doctor she wants to be close to her family..so I have to see what there is around..

Thank you for caring Skischool xx

Fran

Republican - me too skis, or maybe you were joking. Anyway I can beat you on the parent front. Mine both died in their 60s - 64 and 69, so at 71 Ive beaten them already!

Grrr! The doctor and l would have fallen out l feel. How rude to treat an elderly lady and her daughter in such a way! I would have been spraying her with my Dettol spray......ghastly woman.

Joe you and your mum enjoy a lovely day together. Stay well xxxx 💖😘😘😘

Once we (women) hit 50 ANY problem is down to its “just your age” and you should expect it........... women are obviously still the medical professions unsolvable mystery. Hope your mum is well x

Really you should have a quiet word with this doctor.

Sympathize with her unwellness, then point out the error of her ways ,to include her being held responsible for an infection which starts within the next week causing a decline in mums overall health.

Apart from which this doctor should know better than any visit in that condition.

Suppose if you catch it

Jo.

in reply toBuzzytruk

Thank you Jo 🌸

Mum didn’t want to antagonise her so I kept quiet. The only reason she stays with her is because she can see her old GP who is retired and comes as a locum when this one is on holiday x

My mother-in-law used to put every ill down to age. Perhaps she was related to your doctor in some way! Isn't it infuriating? Hopefully, your mum still has a good few years to go. Stupid doctor. As for coughing and sneezing everywhere - well, I suppose she's only human, but it would be better to stay away from people of 'extreme old age' surely. Hope you both don't catch anything. xx Moy

I grit my teeth when age is deemed to be the cause of any medical problem. Nowadays we seem to look much younger than our years so to state 90 as being 'extreme age' is a nonsense and the comments from the doctor you mention are totally unacceptable. What a dreadful bedside manner, plus disgusting to cough in someone's face so I'm impressed you were able to keep your cool.

My neighbour is 94 and she walks to the shops to do her own shopping and is always pottering about her garden, and there are many who do the same. We probably don't realise people's ages because they look so good.

60 is said to be the new 40 and I'm definitely going with that! I'm aiming to be more of a Lulu than a Nora Batty. I watched a tv show recently called Living To Be 100 and all the people taking part were a joy to listen to and looked amazing, so I think that doctor should watch it on IPlayer and change her outdated attitude😤

I sure hope your mum is feeling better now and much improved.

Thank you Titian for such a supportive comment 😊

Does this doctor have a clue, about anything? David Attenborough, Her Majesty, Prince Philip - bet she wouldn't dare throw Extreme Old Age at them; I have a friend whose Dad is 91 and has found himself a girlfriend (viagra has a lot to answer for) - they've already booked their 2018 holiday in the Seychelles! Age is just figures on paper.

in reply toDragonmum

No clue all she did is depress Mum, so I had to work harder at building her up again..

Hahaha..my Dad is 88 and doesn’t seem to need viagra so tell me his nurses 😂..

Thanks Dragonmum xx

Can't imagine where the doctor took her classes in bedside manners, or maybe she was off sick the day the discussed that. What a marvellous way to lift somone's spirits who had reached another milestone if life. She should have been congratulating her instead of making it sound like she should just lay down and throw in the towel.

Then to top it off she seems to have even less knowledge about the spread of disease and germs and how to prevent it or maybe she doesn't care anymore about it then she does about her bedside manner.

in reply tojackdup

Probably I was stunned..well you know they say that something good comes out of something bad, Mum is ready to move closer now..so it should solve that doctor/patient relationship!

Thank you for your caring comment Jack x

It's a disgrace that an infectious doctor should see your Mother considering her age. They are prone at picking up infections easy and she should have known better. If she was visiting my mother who is also 90 I would not let her in the door. Absolutely no consideration for the elderly.

in reply toSadie987

Thanks Sadie😊

Mum was shivering and coughing a little today..I hope she will be ok!!
