I desperately need a course of antibiotics but because of various bad reactions, the only option available to me now is doxycycline. Problem is that I am vegetarian and these are capsules.
My GP told me to open them up and swallow the contents but the packet says they are not to be crushed or chewed.
Has anyone else had experience of swallowing the contents?
Should I swallow my principles and the capsules or hope the infection clears of its own accord?

Glad sassy found a way for you to take them .Best wishes .
Coincidently, I was reading up on one of my wife's meds (due to a manufacturing supply problem) and it is extracted from pigs. It is also noted that it is permitted for Jews and Muslims as "there is no alternative". I would expect it to be less of an issue for veggies but then i'm not a veggie.
If I was in your position I would take the capsules, you only have one life!....I know ethics and principles are supremely important but in this case I think you have to clear the infection before it causes more damage.....other than that take your GP's advice and open the capsules, appears to be the only alternative, hope you feel better soon...
