oxygen has arrived only got 4 cylinders each will last an hour how can I go anywhere if I've only got an hours worth man said I should have more was hoping to do some walking how can I with only an hours worth need some advice

If you are a mouth breather on continuous delivery there is little you can do, apart from dragging more cylinders with you.

There are shopping trolleys with seats that may be of some use.

Can you not practice nose breathing, with a conserver the usage will jump to five hours.

There are a couple of liquid oxygen flask that can give you 2/4 hours on continuous.

Speak to the person who put you on oxygen and the firm who supply you they will advice if you need different device to supply they know what you need and give best advice

Hi Margie, I don't think I could cope with cylinders myself, especially as I don't have a car or partner. I just walked to shop& back to get salad (1 mile total) with my liquid oxygen backpack on. I am able to go out for the day with it so long as I'm sensible - ie. turn it down or off when sat on the bus, turn it higher when and as I need it. You should see how you manage with cylinders for few days then call your respiratory nurse (whoever prescribed the O2) and say how you are or are not getting on with it. Ask for more cylinders or to try another option - the guidance on oxygen states that they should find the best match to suit you - so do speak up if it doesn't suit

I am sure you can ask for more cylinders I think they always hand out four to see how you go it will take awhile for you to work out your weeks usage I have 6 cylinders but my husband takes me shopping in the car or wherever I need to go. If you are walking everywhere shopping trolleys are handy I use a stroller with a seat which helps in the supermarkets my oxygen hangs nicely on the handle bars I am on 4Lpm so my cylinders also last only about 1 hour your oxygen supplier may also have trolleys I asked for one to use around the garden. I would speak to your respiratory nurse she can request more bottles for you. I also have two static concentrators for use around the house but was told not to overdo it that 4 hours should be my total. Hi Margie can I ask firstly who supplies your oxygen and what your flow rate is during use? I am supplied by BOC and I have an oxygen concentrator machine to use in the house and during the night. Then for when I am going out I have the DD size oxygen cylinders and have a total of 6 here. I am on a flow rate of 2 litres and I have also been given a conserver to use which means I only get oxygen with each breathe I breathe in this make the cylinder last me around 7 hours which is ample for my use. If we are going out for a full day we always take 2 cylinders so I do not run out, and when I am walking anywhere I use a mobility walker which has a bag on it and I am able to stand the oxygen bottle in that. You should also be supplied with a bag to put the oxygen cylinder in so if really needed you can use the straps to wear it either on your shoulder or your back like a back pack. Hope this helps you. Baywater I have to have it high on 8 constant flow bear with me it's all new to me I don't have to use in house much just certain jobs and before showering not at night mainly for walking I have a scooter but wanted to walk more on days out if I could

I was on oxygen and had a large machine that plugged into the mains ... why have you not got one if you need so much of it ... we had 2 cylinders for emergency and a travel one which was heavy but could be taken on a journey but only lasted 2 hours. .... You need to ask what is happening as it seems very strange ... i was kept in hospital until my oh bought the small cylinder as proof that it had been delivered !! Keep us posted ... I am now off oxygen too !! x

I am on oxygen continuous 2 litre at home 3-4 getting into car or walking but turn down once in car. I have on. I have a concentrator I have in bedroom with long tubing so use this day and night at home, I have cylinders that will last me 3-4 hours while out driving or sitting less if walking. I have 7 of those, so maybe good idea if you contact oxygen nurse and ask for more. Good luck

I have 6 cylinders for when I go out which each of them last about 2.1/2 hours at 2 litres per min. I now have a concentrator (big one) for home it arrived today and I still have my portable simplygo for when I'm visiting my daughter.

I get very tired now and my shopping or visiting has been getting more and more restricted. We have recently started having our weekly shop delivered to the door because I don't have the stamina to do a full shop. Just before last Christmas I bit the bullet and used my dads wheelchair for some heavy duty crimble present buying so I could conserve my oxygen and visit more than one shop before my legs start to fold on me. We have used it one other time since then, I try to think that instead of it being another step down the slippery slope of lung disease it gives me a chance to enjoy life outside my house again even if its for a short time.

It has a plug in to car adapter and A/C adapter. Will last up to four hours with no attachments and I have a 7 foot air hose line so going to grocery store driving in a vehicle anything you need is very simple look into anything like this is available in your country google would be a really good start to be helpful. Unfortunately in the UK a lot of equipment has to be paid for and it is pretty expensive so unless you are fortunate to have a good pension it is hard to get these things to assist.

1 liquid oxygen fill up when you need 2 pulse doser only pumps when you breath make a 2 hr tank last 8 or 3 ask for portable consentrater they are the bizz

Hi Margie, I've been prescribed amblutory oxygen for the past couple of months and I too received four small cylinders. I discovered they weren't lasting me long and I was having them replaced on a daily basis. My supplier is very good and will accept an order today for delivery tomorrow and they don't seem to mind how frequently they come. I did phone the hospital and they increased my order to include three larger cylinders which has helped with gardening etc. I put the large cylinder in a shopping trolley and drag it round the garden with me and last week took it on a family outing with another in the boot of the car. I only use the oxygen whilst mobile, turn it off when seated. I can't get on with a back pack, I carry the small cylinder in a shopping bag on my shoulder and whilst in the supermarket put it in the stores shopping trolley. The annoying thing is I can use a whole cylinder browsing the shelves/racks of a big store. Strangely enough the last week or so I haven't felt I've needed the oxygen so often and was out yesterday, walked around the supermarket without it. Had it in trolley just in case but felt quite good, goodness knows why? I feel quite in the dark re the supply of oxygen, I got told I needed it and that was that. I've also been told not to get a mobility scooter as that will stop me excercising ! I live alone, care for myself, it's very hard at times but I do my best to plod along! You need to get your script changed, ask your o2 nurse for a portable concentrator. I use one and although I'm a natural mouth breather it works great. I am on the max setting of 6lpm at a pulse setting ( on demand).

When seated or at rest or when walking real slow can be turned off, recharge battery in the car or coffee shop and a whole day out becomes.a realitu again if you use it wisely. Good luck😉.
