Today been married. 40 years spending day in pjamas full of flu looking at stair lifts is not what I expected to be doing 3 months ago lol

Happy Anniversary! Hope you're not feeling too bad. I had a reconditioned Acorn stair lift fitted 2 weeks ago. I can manage the stairs during the day but not at night. I would dread going to bed. Now, the relief of going into the bedroom and not struggling to breathe. It is a God send. I hope you get yours soon T2d, you will immediately feel a sense of more freedom. Get well soon. Lilian xx

Thanks for anniversary wishes Lillian I hope acorn did not hound you like they are us what is very scary is the price of the maintainance contracts what did you do am feeling a little better today thanks not looking forward to tomorrow got decorators coming to do stairs passage and landing so will be here a few days dreading the paint odour all though supposed yo be low omission going to use a few cut onions I was told about and of course will have to use commode in shed dreading it .Iam pleased you happy with your stairlift take care xx

Oh dear! What an awful few days you are having, I hope they pass very quickly, and just keep thinking how fresh and clean it will look when it's finished. Do you have a downstairs toilet? I did contact Acorn directly but found them very expensive and pushy, also Age UK very expensive, I told him I couldn't afford their prices he, said we could pay monthly! I felt so depressed after speaking to him. A stair lift is not a luxury item! I then looked locally for stair lifts and found one in Warminster about 5 miles away. A small company his cost half of what the others quoted. As I said it's a reconditioned Acorn and cost £895. A years guarantee and a call-out charge of £45 after that if it's needed. I was fitted within 3 days and fitting included in the price. Just get one T2d, you won't regret it. I will be thinking of you over the next few days, I think I would just escape to the bedroom with some earplugs! Lilian xxxxx

The prices are extortionate but if you haven't got maintainance contract it will be very expensive to repair won't it .I need a curved one other option walk the first couple of stairs to get a curved will take a few weeks to install have to make track a straight a couple of days Have you asked about servicing and price of repairs .My husband wants me to get a straight one and walk the couple of stairs but what if I can't do it soon don't know how fast this progress is .I can't stay in bedroom because decorator will be upstairs as well as down we don't have downstairs toilet have to use commode in the shed horrendous xxx

I agree with you T2d, if, (much) later on you can't manage the first couple of stairs the lift won't be of much use. The curved ones are so expensive, but if you have to have one. so be it. Crikey, how inconvenient for you to have to go outside to the toilet. Is it a covered way to the shed or do you get wet? My sister had a commode in her hallway. I wish things were easier for you at the moment, but just think soon you will have a newly decorated house and a stairlift and the weather is better. Regarding our purchase of stair lifts we went for the cheapest option! Thinking of you. xxxxx
