I have just come out of hospital after ten weeks, because I had pneumonia , over the last three months I have lost three stones !. I am trying to put the weight back on but I have no appetite . I am very worried about this. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on how to put the weight on. Thanks Mike

I have just started seeing a dietitian to help me gain weight ,,,,,,, his advice to me was to encourage our appetite to increase we need to eat 6 times a day about every 2 hours,,, but very small amounts of food so something like a high calorie biscuit or a banana or a small amount of nuts a custard etc,, anything thats small and a few mouth fulls will trigger our appetite to start working again....

Have a chat with your doctor about seeing a dietitian and maybe getting some nutrition drinks to help at the start

Its working for me ive had to warn my daughter to keep moving in case i eat her :)

Same happened to me this winter though not so much weight but I didn't need to lose any in the first place. It's a slow business but biscuits and chocolate, mashed potatoes with cheese and anything fattening . Hot chocolate and puddings all help. Good luck.

I too was in hospital for 6 weeks with pneumonia 3 years ago and lost a lot of weight. I had some protein powder, the same as bodybuilders use. You just mix it with milk. I ate peanut butter on toast. Always have bananas at hand. Flapjacks are high in calories. I had coffee made with milk and stirred in some powdered milk. Forget about your 3 meals a day especially if you have to cook and invariably you will be too exhausted to do so. Just have lots of calorie laden snacks during the day Your strength and appetite will return gradually but it takes a while after having been in hospital for so long

Mikefever I also have not long been out of hospital, my weight dropped to five and a half stone whilst in there. That frightened me, Since being out I have now got back to six stone which although not great is better. I agree with everything that Mandy has said, so I will not repeat it. Cheese Butter Eggs Fruit juice Avocado's are all good for you. I also take the high calorie fortified fruit juices on prescription four a day which give me 1200 calories before food is added on . I would add that after being in hospital for that long your body will take some time to recover and that includes your appetite. xx

Please, clematis5932 What fortified fruit juices on prescription did you have? This sounds just what I need 1200 calories before food is added! That would help me so much Thank you Petto

Petto I have Nutricia Fortijuce High Energy 200ml each one is 300 calories I have four a day. Ask for various flavours Orange Strawberry Vanilla Blackcurrant Exotic Fruits plus a few more. I tolerate these well unlike the milky creamy ones that seemed to upset my tummy. you can buy them over the counter but I believe they are expensive. Good luck

I'm not sure if your a coffee drinker but in the beginning of my weight gain battle it was all I was guaranteed to want so I was told to add coffee whitener or dried milk to my full fat milk helped me a little. x
