I don't understand how posts get promoted to the top of the list. A couple of times now I have added to a post I started and was surprised that they seem to stay down the list. Do they get to the top of the list if someone else adds a comment?

Hi

No post will always be replaced by next post.

You can click button to the right of post, oldest/newest this will Change the way they are shown.

In news feed the last post to receive a comment will appear at the top of list.

If I append to one of my old posts nobody will know as it stays down the list. I used to be a programmer!

Posts are displayed in the order they' ve arrived.. Your post will be top of the list until the next person posts and then you move down to second. No matter how many comments you receive,, your post will continue to move down the list as newer ones arrive.

Posts with a lot of replies are flagged in red as 'Popular' and if you go to newsfeed in your drop down menu, you'll find new replies to existing posts.

So it's easy to track your post but nobody gets to be top dog or top of the hill, no matter how many replies their post gets.

Hi

Liked the bit about top dog, on the old forum there where two such list. Popular post, and popular poster.

It was funny when some would write often with long post, then some one would post daily jokes and take top spot.

People use to get upset, glad it no longer applies .

Wherever there's competition for popularity, people get upset and arguments start. I'm also glad it no longer applies, Stone.

Top dog? Odd thing to say. If I append to an old post nobody will see it unless they specifically search for it. Which they won't.

Just a figure of speech Peter. Easiest thing is to make a new post and you can be sure people will see it.

Sure. But if I referenced what someone said in the original post nobody would have a clue what I was on about.

Yes I see that. The last comment was by someone other than the OP, that seems to make a difference.

Hi

You are correct, just tried on one of my old post.

One you can do is to post a update with link to original post.

Several members have done that in the past.

When you say ' append' Peter, do you mean you will edit it and add extra information , or do you want to make a comment in the replies ?

No, adding a new comment at the end.

I was wrong. I have just added to an old post of mine and it appears at the top.

Hi Peter, I read the post on your colonoscopy and it sounds like it was pretty grim. Glad you survived it and hope the results are helpful in terms of giving you a proper diagnosis.

You could do a new post called 'update on my colonoscopy' or something like that and anyone who'd read your previous post would recognise the topic and could check back to your original post if they needed clarification of any details. There are posts like this very frequently as people come back to let us know how their tests or consultations went.

It wasn't that bad, just uncomfortable.
