oxygen

Dear friends, When I woke this morning I felt so good that for a few minutes I thought maybe my emphysema diagnosis was a dream. I was wondering if everyone with the emphysema diagnosis eventually has to use supplemental oxygen. Hope everyone has a good day.

Hi

Although I use Ambulitory oxygen for exercise and moving around, I am stage four.

There is no set time or even if you require oxygen therapy.

Supplementary oxygen is given if your oxygen levels are constantly below 88% at rest or desaturation when mobile.

My sats dropped to 83% on a short walk. At rest 93/94%.

Some progress to needing oxygen. Some need it from the beginning. Some never need it. Others use it only when mobile or only when sleeping. Everyone is different and it is linked to your oxygen saturation level not what stage you have reached.

I was diagnosed with severe emphysema at age 49 but think I first had breathing problems in my 20's I have Alpha 1 AD and was prescribed ambulatory oxygen ten years later, been on it 3 years and wish I had it for the last ten years lol !😁
