Ned some advice on good things for my electric burner.

β€’15 Replies

I used to love incense and scented candles but I don't feel happy using either anymore as I read somewhere that these are not good if you have Emphasyma which I do.

I have stopped using any sort of aerasoles and don't like Glade plug ins and they smell synthetic so I plumped for a Glade electric burner.

What do I use with it? I looked at Yankee candle melts but figured maybe they were synthetic also so I bought 3 lots of essential oils. Orange,Lemon and Lavendar. My favourites.

I then went onto E Bay and tried to buy some unflavoured wax to put my oils in.

There are quite a few but I still don't want to buy anything that would aggravate my chest. This winter has been hard enough as it is without me adding to my breathing problems...

Was thinking about some sort of natural wax. Any ideas anyone.???

Hello Zola I can't help I'm afraid.... ( I remember what a great bare footed runner you were! )I have supposedly significant severe emph but I love incense and my oil burners and oil perfume..my own. and it doesn't seem to bother my breathing...but....smelly cleaning stuff like oven cleaner or stain remover seem to shut off my airways almost completely it feels like! Also some deodorant and other people's perfume now and then good choice in being careful and hope you can find some .😏 huff x

I had an online friend with c.o.p.d. who died after using carpet shampoo, all those chemicals. Plug ins are overwhelming I never use that kind of stuff πŸ˜•

Sorry to hear about your friend Hufferpuffer. I also use scented candle.. And I used to be a cleaner. But the thing I used never affected my COPD.

Oh dear I find those plug in things impossible. They're full of chemicals. Dreadful things. Joss sticks & smelly candles are terrible too. Don't waste your money any more.

I've got some lavender oil, I sprinkle a couple of drops on the dogs bed if it pongs a little. Perhaps a few drops of your oils in some water in a little pot on a radiator would give you the effect you want? P

I'm very dubious about these plug ins too. Even when I could breathe properly I wouldn't had one.

I bought one to plug in near the dogs bed the poor thing was coughing and sneezing for days before I realised.

I dont understand why anyone with a lung disease would burn conventional candles whether or not they affect your breathing. They are made of petroleum - even if you can breathe ok, breathing them in will add to the overall burden on your lungs caused by pollution. At 36% lung function I don't want anything that will compromise my condition further.

Something we can get here are pure beeswax candles...the chap keeps his own hives and produces honey as well...they smell pleasant.

Glad you mentioned that Vashti, there are alternatives to the petroleum ones. Beeswax candles are lovely and it's nice to think of everything from the hive being used.

That's the one thing I homed in on a week back. Can I get some sort of loose beeswax I wonder?

Put my postcode in and searched for Beeswax and there is a firm in Hastings who I rang. (Peter)

Kemble Bee Supplies.

(0)1424 870 737

kemble-bees.com/search/results

Rang him again as I wanted Burgundy red beeswax sheets and would he sell me less that 10 sheets. He said E mail him with my requirements and he would make me up an order.

(Sheets are sold for candle making)

He also said he had 2 cats who would sit in the workshop and come back into the house smelling of Beeswax. And he had a customer who would buy unbleached Beeswax and she worked with Autistic children and it calmed them down.

So I have decided to go for unbleached Beeswax.

Apparently the smell of unbleached Beeswax is lovely.... Might not need my essentail oils after all...

Thanks to Peter I have an order on the way....

I used to make candles out of beeswax, they burned much cleaner than shop bought, you can also buy lose beeswax chips too to add your oils to
