Hello, Everyone! Does anyone experience foot cramps? If so, how do you get relief?

Cramps
Take magnesium supplement daily
THANKS!! As a matter of fact, the other day I started taking magnesium supplement. I guess it'll take time to notice a difference. Magnesium is said to be a very important mineral for several good reasons (smile.) Thanks!
Magnesium and B6 is what you want. You can get this in tablet form from any chemist. I get mine from my local chemist and it does work. Indian tonic water is also very good and works. You drink half a tumbler before bed and you will have a restful night's sleep with no cramps.
If you can tolerate it drink tonic water or bitter lemon. Has quinine which helps stops cramp.
I hate the taste even with gin! 😂 so GP gives quinine tablets which I take nightly.
Also important to keep well hydrated. If I don't drink enough through the day I get severe cramp in my calf during the night.
I use to take quinine tablets but GP would not prescribed anymore.
Indian Tonic Water or Quinine tablets.
G'day Mrs GLBJ
Good Hydration is the key..... I sweat (There is no other word for it) and unless I keep the fluids up I cramp to a point of unconsciousness.
Also take 4 x 600mg magnesium tablets every morning and if I work (Manual labour) during the day I take 2 more after my supper.
I keep a freezer bag in the freezer, (Where else you may ask) sometimes in desperation I just grab the nearest item...a bag of frozen peas or beans and I apply this to the cramp area. This usually relaxes the tendon and muscle in a few minutes.
If you have someone with you when you cramp...Try straightening the leg and have the helper put your foot in their lap ...they grab the toes and bend the foot back towards you. Make sure you keep the leg straight....Painful but it works very quickly.
But to say again Good hydration is your best asset.
Good luck with it

Apparently dehydration is a big factor in getting cramps, I was told this by a health professional. I used to get a lot of cramps in my hands and feet, especially at night. I drink more now, I found a lovely lemon flavoured spring water so I don't get fed up with just drinking water.
Good morning MrsGLBJ
Yes! I do. I leap (ahem)/ creep gingerly out of bed and walk as fast as I can from bedroom to living room, saying Aaaargh, but decide I need the lavatory pretty quickly on my way, and by the time I've washed my hands, the cramp has usually gone. It is really horrible. I feel for you. My father used to say a tomato would ease it for him but it doesn't do it for me. I hope someone has a more positive and helpful answer for you.
I get foot cramp and try and walk it off. Will buy Magnesium supplement as l could do with some relief. Xxxxx
As suggested by Swerv, take magnesium- in particular: Muscleze Powder - it worked wonders for me! It's expensive but I take slightly less than recommended so it then lasts a couple of months.
Hi Mrs GLB, Yes, I have suffered from that. This was largely due to two factors. The first was due to my other ailment of vascular disease. Also also discovered that my pain medication, Zomorph, listed cramps as a possible side effect. Magnesium will help, as others have mentioned. Also, an alternative /additional preventative product is Quinine - which you can get from drinking quality Tonic Water. Make sure the Tonic Water actually lists it as an ingredient.
In my own case, some of the "cramps" were not in fact cramp and the area of pain was not muscle related. However, it felt identical to conventional cramp. The only thing that seems to work for that is forcing yourself to walk to relieve it.
Hi there I get foot cramps, but just try to move them till it eases. However there are lots of good ideas to try on this post. So good luck with finding what helps you. Might have to try several things though. Best Wishes
Don't forget potassium
Hi Mrs GLB I agree with Swerv I used to get foot cramps and severe leg cramps which woke me up in the night and left my muscles painful for days afterwards. My doctor recommended Mgnesium Citrate 320 mg daily and within days the cramps were gone, apparently we do not get the required intake of magnesium anymore due to soil erosion etc so the amount in our body depletes. Check with your GP beforehand though.
I get foot cramps as part of Raynauds Phenomenon. I make sure my core body temperature is kept warm using lots of layers, and also keep my legs and feet well covered with socks, tights, trousers, boots or good shoes (not all at once, depends on the season). When I get cramp I hold the foot in my hands to warm it, and bend the toes back to the right position.
Hi.I used to suffer from very painful episodes of cramp. Often while driving, or when asleep in bed.
I take about 300ml of bitter lemon a day which controls my cramp. Also keep hydrated. I was surprised how effective a couple of simple changes in my routine help .
hi i agree with the magnesium. but also place a bar of soap under the bed sheet, dont laugh it really works. the soap seems to be efective for about 3/6 months.then simply replace with a new bar of soap. voila cramp free!
Soap doesn't sound silly. Sometimes, the silliest sounding thing can have many benefits. Do you think it matters what brand of soap to use?
You could try massaging your feet with magnesium oil or magnesium lotion. (Holland & Barrett). I use the lotion as the oil leaves a slightly sticky feeling but they both work, I also use Epsom salts in a foot bath - they're a bit cheaper than magnesium flakes and seem to work just as well.
hi I had foot cramps and found out it wad a side effect of seretide inhaler. The doc changed me to incruse and I'm now ok.
Until I began taking magnesium, I had horrible leg cramps at night, most often during the winter for some reason. They're pretty much under control but I still have foot cramps, which I don't understand. If you find a cure, please post.
Thanks for your interest. About to go out the door. I take Magnesium Oxide in a white tablet form. Is there such a thing as too much magnesium??
Mrs.GLBJ, in the past I had the same problem after visiting my Dr diagnosed with dehydration, after drinking coconut water I no longer have the problem..... that seemed to cure the cramps and pain in my hands and feet. Also I used to experience cramps in my thighs and legs and my Cardiology said it was side effects from the statins I was prescribed, after drinking tonic water it eventually went away... I hope this helps a little and I wish you well
Yes, your comment is very helpful! THANK YOU!!
HI I GOT BAD NIGHT CRAMPS AND DOCTOR PRESCRIBED AMYTRIPTALINE AND I ALSO TAKE MAGNESIUM, DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE HAS DONE THE TRICK BUT CRAMPS NO MORE XX
Drinking more water and using just a little salt on my food and no more camps!!
Hello, Mrs. G. While I was taking Sirdupla (prescribed as a substitute for Seretide) , I experienced very painful cramps in my feet and legs. My wife would massage them to stop the spasms, and we put books underneath the bottom of the bed to raise it sllghtly, as we read that would ease the condition. Look up the side effects of any medication you are taking as that may be what is causing your cramps. Good luck, Albert.
Hi yes Magnesiumis good to take. Also I bought a pack of cramp tablets over the counter, they worked good.
Are you on a regular medication as some medications have foot cramps as a side effect.
You've 39 replies! I'm sure someone had mentioned tonic water, it works fir me 100%! P
This might seem silly but I used to have night cramps until I started wearing socks with soap shavings in them. It really works!!
It also helps to use magnesium sulphate in a bath and linger for about 15 minutes, at least once a week. You can purchase very inexpensive magnesium sulphate, as Epsom salts at any garden centre.
Hi there I have cramp a lot, I spoke to you doctor and he told me that the sprays cause it, he gave me som quinine tablets and they seem to have worked. I suggest you see your doctor
Regards Linda
I get foot cramps out of the blue for a few nights and they have me screaming ...I can recommend Indian tonic water with quinine in it . You can buy it in all the big stores very cheaply..... its fantastic just to have a glass about an hour before bed it honestly works for me i swear by it
It does taste awful though so i put some orange squash in
Hope you find something that works its not a nice thing to have
Hi
I have feet and thigh cramps, drink copious amounts of water, also have some tonic water as you need quinine to stop the cramps and eat plenty of bananas for quinine.
They say stretching helps but it tends to make my cramp worse, just try relaxing. Hope this helps you.
I have bought some magnesium flakes . I din't know I could make oil from it. Do you know how? Thanks!!
Thank you all so very much!! You've given me lots of remedies and things to consider concerning those mean 'ol cramps. I want each of you to know I appreciate you taking the time to respond!!!
Alrighty!! Would this also be counted as a daily supplement, if I use the oil everyday instead of a capsule?
Thanks so much Dottie! I heard about the oil before and thought it was a good idea. Now I know how to make it myself, thanks to you!
...signing off Cramp Free lol
Hi after reading the replies i started taking tonic water before i go to bed and really worked for me xx
