I have Copd and can't cough up mucus in my throat
Hi
Try
I am testing one of these and actually, compared to a normal flutter device, acapella or aerosure medic, I can't say that it does anything. For me the aerosure medic is the best.
Hello

Flutter device works on the same principle as a lung flute I gather.

@Gwenpie Drink plenty water that loosen it up for me
I have a flutter device. They cost around £60. I had mine on prescription, but not all GP surgeries will fund them. I find it really helpful. I drink plenty of water, use the flutter, then bend forward a little bit and get someone to firmly pat you on the back. It works quite well for me.
I use the Areosure to loosen it up, then the flutter device, to help me cough it up, the huffing techniques is good, check it out on u tube, you will get help on doing it x also I find a nice hot drink before you start your clearing, just helps loosen it all. Take care x
I got my Acapella on prescription from the GP. I don't find it works as well as postural drainage but on the days when that is difficult to do, it is a good standby.
I looked up the acapella and found it for sale on Amazon (of course!) but it was expensive (£70) which is why I asked my GP. It was recommended by the pulmonary physio so I guess he was happy to do it because of that.
Since you mention coughing up the mucus from your throat Gwenpie, is there any chance you could have reflux? Lots of people with copd have this and it can produce huge amounts of sticky mucus in the throat. Might be worth checking with your doc - reflux doesn't always give you heartburn in case you rule out the possibility because of that.
that reply is so helpful to me. I have had a cough for over a year and very sticky mucus but in my throat more than my chest. I have hiatus hernia plus something call Shatski Ring and I just cannot move this mucus. Although it does feel as tho it is permanently running down the back of my throat, my nose is completely clear. I have just stopped taking a 'Statin' which I have been taking for years, the 'blurb' says persistent cough can be a side effect, so 3 days ago I stopped this drug to see if the cough/mucus improves. Waiting for a hospital appt, just had x-ray but don't have results up to now.
Hi Gwenpie - I bought a so called " flutter device" recently - ring 01942 701 210 - they sell all sorts of breathing aids from Nebulisers to Flutters ! - it certainly works for me ..Good luck ! ..
