Medication.

Why is that a lot of members on here seem to struggle getting necessary medications? My brother in law has not been well for two weeks but refused to go to GP, consequently driven my sister in law mad. Not sure of the extent of the problem other than heavy cold to begin with, dreadful cough ( still there ) & feeling really rotten. Finally decided yesterday that enough was enough, couldn't get an appointment but was prescribed Antibiotics over the phone. Surely his chest should have been examined first - maybe a virus so AB's won't work plus waste of money to NHS !!! People on here seem to be unable to get medication, particularly Rescue Packs. Doesn't make sense does it ?

None of it makes sense Helen. We can't get appointments either so Pete had to speak to GP over the phone about a new drug he was given that is not compatible with two drugs he already takes.

It took the doctor ages to grasp what Pete was talking about. No longer can we speak face to face to a doctor it seems.

Hope your BIL gets well soon. Xxxx

Thats absolutely shocking to prescribed antibiotics over the phone.

I went to see my doctor yesterday and saw someone new so she mentioned how we had not met before and i told her i hardly ever go there,,,,,"thats good ", was her reply, but my answer to that was "" not really , i dont come here because im never looked after properly !!!! ...

Hope you well honey x x

Helen, none of it makes sense, it doesn't even seem to be a "postcode thing". I do know one thing though that is definitely at the root of it and it is lack of money ...lack of money for people's genuine needs. Maybe we don't shout enough. I was also prescribed some medication over the phone last year, by a locum, and it made me really poorly. Nothing at all wrong with what I was already taking.

Tell your sister in law to get her husband off to A&E or Walk in Centre.

Good advice Jennifer though he's really pig headed, but she's suffering as well because he's miserable.

I'm just thankful that I have a very good GP & surgery. Both my brother in law & my cousin ( they live in different parts of Wales ) can only get a same day appointments by starting phoning at 8am. By the time my brother in law got through yesterday at 8.30 all the appointments had gone, hence the prescription over the phone.

At a couple of Surgeries near me, it's nothing to wait a month for an appointment!!!

Hope you & Merlin are having a good day - Helen.
