HI JUST WONDERING WITH MY NEW PFT TEST 2 MONTHS AGO IN AUGUST IF IOT SEEMS MY EMPHYSEMA IS GETTING WORSE THANKS
PFTS NUMBERS NEW TEST: HI JUST... - Lung Conditions C...
PFTS NUMBERS NEW TEST
If it is Dennis, it's so marginal as to not be significant. Technicians will tell you that the machines are accurate to within 5% either way (so my last technician told me). Also it depends how you were on the day - so many things can affect it. You were 82% in 2004 and 78% fev1 now. If this is an accurate reflection of your lung function, losing merely 4% in 12 years is pretty good
If i may say so, I think you should let go of your anxiety and just live your life. People here will tell you that it's more how you feel than how the numbers are. Although I don't always agree with that, I can tell you that at 36% fev1 I feel better now that I did ten years ago (diagnosed in 2000) due to the large amount of exercise I do. Exercise is the best thing for you can do for emphysema (though of course hard for people who have pain on movement). It's also good for anxiety too. Take care
Hi Dennis I have to agree with O2. It does no good continually posting your results on here, except to fuel your anxiety. With levels as good as yours you can live a long and still healthy life, unless you worry yourself into an early grave that is! To put it into perspective there are many here with less than 50% lung function still leading a full and active life: indeed many of them are still working. Do you know why you are so anxious? Have you sought treatment for it? x
How are you getting PFTs every couple of months? My understanding is to be diagnosed with COPD your FEV1/FVC needs to be below 70% and yours is not anywhere near that. If I am reading your chart right your FEV1 in 2004 was 82%, then in 2015 was 98% and now is 78%. Your FEV1 can vary throughout the day let alone over longer periods so the minor variations you see doesn't mean your condition is worsening. If every PFT was a little worse than the last then perhaps you might have reason to be concerned but it is up and down with no apparent consistent trend. How was your COPD diagnosed as like I said from my limited knowledge of COPD your FEV1/FVC needs to be less than 70%. I am certainly no expert and you should discuss your concerns with your doctor but it doesn't seem like your COPD is deteriorating to me.
I just wanted to add I read your post and replied prior to reading the other two posts which have much the same information.
thank you ..... I had a ct scan 1 year and 6 months ago after having like 4 normal plain chest xrays over the past year before i had the ct scan .. the xrays all were normal but the ct scan showed emphysema in my central and upper lungs ... my doctor said that after smoking for 45 years its mild but indeed its emphysema... my lung doctor said it is also mild but my new numbers of 78% fev1 put me at mild/ moderate copd. he said .... just had a 2nd ct scan in this past august and it showed about the same as the one i had 1 year 6months ago
thankis im also trying to quit smoking ND I AM HAVING A VERY HARD TIME NOT WORRYING ABOUT MY HEALTH EVERYDAY AS THE PAST 3 WEEKS I HAVE HAD THIS TERRIBLE COUGH AND YELLOW GUNK IN MY SINUSES AND IT IS GOING INTO MY THROAT MAKING ME HAVE COUGHING FITS TO CLEAR IT OUT. THEN IT COMES RIGHT BACK.. HAD AN UP AND DOWN LOW FEVER FROM 98.6 NORMAL TO 99.9 EACH DAY AND FEEL VERY OFF BALNCE AND PLAIN OL OUT OF IT WHEN IM WALKING AROUND ... BEEN ON AMOXICLLIN NOW 9 DAYS ... SO I THINK ITS A BAD LUNG THING GOING ON
Have you had a sputum sample done to see if you are on the right antibiotics Your FEv1 are really good what is your o2 level.
WAITING ON SPUTUM TEST I DID YESTERDAY .. MY o2 during the day sitting or walking is usully between 93% and 99% mostly around 95%... but when im laying down going to bed watching tv ill put it on my finger and itss between 90% and 94% unless if i take a deep breathe or cough then it goes back up to 97 or 98
my regular doctors and my lung doctors say its post nasal drip because i have a bad sinus infection. lots of yellow and sometime hgreenish blowing from my nose and its hard to clear it from around my vocal cords i breathe and i hear and feel it just rattlin there and very hard to clear it
I have the same problem sometimes. Have you tryed using saline through a nebuliser. I find that helps clear the stuff. My stats are the same as yours. I hope you feel better soon.
SHOULD I BE HAVING THIS HARD OF A TIME WITH MY BREATHING WITH SUCH MILD PFT NUMBERS.. I CONSTANTLY FEEL LIKE I HAVE TO TAKE A DEEP BREATHE TO FEEL ANYTHING. THEN MY EXHALE GOES OUT GOOD AT FIRST BUT THE LAST FEW SECONDS SEEM TO BE SLOW
