Have had asthma since 2 years of age, then abpa for past 13 years, now copd. Oxygen level is okay but am out of breath so frequently and meds not helping much. Down to 10mg of predisone and put on Breo, plus rescue inhaler. Curious as to medication s people are taking for shortness of breath
Take care

@Hi Skleiner well I'm on 20 mg preds oxygen level 4 Spirits inhaler once a day Affair inhaler twice a day Albuterol as needed I have copd and sarcadois and emphysema and pulmonary hypertension Hope this helps
Many people on here use a variety of inhalers and what suits one does not suit another. It seems to be a case of trial and error to find the best in each case. You don't say what level of COPD you have or whether it is mainly emphysema or bronchitis. These can also make a difference to which inhaler is prescribed for you. The best person to guide you really is your doctor. If you feel your inhalers are not working then go back and say so. There are others to try.
I probably have had copd for a long time but my previous allergist did not diagnosed me with it. I changed health insurance and the new pulmonologist stated that I had it. Don't know the level, but I also get abpa flare ups and have had asthma since I was 2 years of age. I was born in Brazil but as a child was sent to Switzerland for 11/2years then to the asthmatic home in Denver twice for a period of 2 years each time. Now I reside in California. My breathing seemed fine with q-var and pro-air inhaler but not anymore. Am waiting for the results of cat scan to see why I have something on the lower part of right lung. Meanwhile am taking Breo and rescue inhaler.
Hi Sil, I take Ventolin, Symbicort and Spiriva inhalers to help with breathlessness. I also nebulise Ventolin when needed. It's usually chest infections that cause me to be breathless, so getting the correct antibiotics is the biggest help for me. And steroids, if things are bad.
Apart from drugs, there are lots of ways to help with breathlessness, or at least help you to cope with it. Regulating your breathing, by taking slow regular breaths and breathing out slowly through pursed lips helps. Regular exercise also helps, getting into Pulmonary Rehabilitation would be a good way to start this. Try to arrange things to make doing what you have to do as easy as possible. Walk only where it's flat, use shopping trollies going round the shops and drive when you don't feel up to walking. Believe it or not, you can get quite used to breathlessness and finding ways to work around it. I hope this has been of some help.
Hi and welcome to the group I have COPD and a small showing of bronnchictasis. I have had COPD since 2006. And the bronch showed up 3 years ago after repeated infections. I also have a low immune system. At the moment the inhalers I take are Relvar Ellipta, Brefaris Genuair and ventalin.
