Drowning sensation.

My dad ha said twice over the weekend that he feels like he's drowning. We've had the gp out and after and examination of his chest said that there's nothing major and give him a short course of antibiotics and steroids.

Has anyone else experienced this sensation or can relate to it?

Thanks in advance x

Yes I can, I had the same experience shortly after I was diagnosed with Asbestosis, my GP prescribed "Carbosistene" or "Mucodine" as it is more commonly known, I've not experienced it since. ( I take theses every day)

If he feels no better and breathing is more strained than usally phone a ambulance.

Gp have said to me lots times chest been clear when i have had bad infection.

Hope meds work and he starts feeling better.

I haven't but it must be so frightening for your Dad that I would get an ambulance if the medication is not helping. When the doctor said is was nothing major did he actually say the antibiotics and steroids would remove that horrible feeling. I hope they work very soon.

I have on a couple of occasions. It's horrid and very scary, and each time the doc would put me on antibiotics and steroids but crucially I would also go on the nebuliser twice a day at the health centre. Perhaps that would help your dad if he has a lot of watery flem and mucus. It certainly helped me whilst I waited for the meds to kick in.

Hope he feels better soon.

Love, Mx

He uses a nebuliser 4x daily with salbutamol and actrivent(spiriva).

His respitory nurse is due out Wednesday or Thursday so fingers crossed the steroids and antibiotics would of kicked in by then.

Thanks for the replies

Hi Melissa87. My Husband has Emphysema & is at stage 4, he's always struggling 2 breath more when he as a lot of mucus (Fluid ) on his chest. I'ts really awful 2 listen & watch them struggling so badly. As it happens he had an appointment 2 c the doctor at the chest clinic, so his own doctor just put him on antibiotic & steroids till he went 2 the hospital appointment 2 c the lung doctor. He told us 2 get the BLF Respiratory Nurse's out to visit him at home if he gets any worse or call 999. I really hope this may help u, as in deciding what 2 do if u think he is not getting any better with the tablets. Please let us all no how he gets on.

Gentle Hugs x.
